junk the std. 4-1 manifold/downpipe & get one from a 1.3/1.4/1.6.
don't put really huge wheels on it, 165/175 will be big enough,
the engine is a short stroke one, so it will rev a lot. make sure the distributor is working right (the advance retard always goes wrong) and get it properly serviced. old engines need their breathers cleaning out, which is a sod on a 1.2, and you would need to take the starter off.

but without spending for a head/cam, you are limited, and a bigger engine would be a better bet.

If you want to keep it 1.2 for insurance, you could get a 1.3 crank & rods and make a 1.4 keeping your original engine number, it would cost a bit to do but you'd get about 80-85hp with a std head

Have a butchers at Stuart's 1.2, quite an extensive mod list there. Although if insurance cost is an issue, to be honest you'd probably be just as well off insuring an engine conversion to a 1.3/1.4, as a modified 1.2 up to the equivalent power would probably cost just as much on insurance.
