Here's the latest update on the new model novas. I'm currently at the final stages making Keith Robinsons GSi, Mels GTE and a couple of others (a mk2 flare and a Nova Rally Sport beast owned by paul Simpson)

Currently have full GTE and GSi kits (including skirts, alloys splitters, spoilers and mirrors) as well as the "sport" and MK2 standard front bumpers.

These pics show the models at 1st stage of assembly. Wheels arent set right (just for balance)

Looks great, any idea how much you will be selling them for? Are any of those wheels compomotive MOs?

ade
05-11-05, 11:59 PM
think one set "looks like" compomotives - they can be modified...

Prices for basic GSi/GTE start at ?80. That includes a model, kitted out to your cars external features, including reg plate and graphics, mounted on a plinth. The cars come boxed and includes postage and packing.

Theyre made of solid resin and each model is hand made. Theyre 1:18 scale. You cant get 1:18 scale anywhere for the Nova and as each one is customised specifically to the clients car (or one they like) the price refelects that.

The more kits I get made the more the price will stay about thet level. The greater the modifications the higher the price because each mod needs to be made.

They make great paperweights and arent toys - theyre more like display pieces.

I'll update the modelnovas website (www.modelnovas.com) when I complete my 1st ones.

If youre interested, PM me (currently have a fairly long waiting list so gives you plenty of time to save the pennies!)

lol

At the moment I'm making them in the evenings and weekends and when I get time. Build time is still being worked on (about 2 weeks a couple of hours a night etc) depending on the kit.

I think I can knock up a standard GSi/GTE in about 2 weeks +/- a week or two.

The wifes niggling a bit because I just come home from work at 6.30 and live in the garage till about 9pm most nights!

Scott - no probs - I've been working on your whale tail spoiler - its a pig to recreate - the last one took me ages!

They are amazing, thats craftmanship for you, Do you make them with rusty rear arches, bad paint work and bumpers hanging off? then i could have one to look like mine. keep up the good work.

Those are the coolest things I have ever seen. Top skills.

for what it's worth I think you could make a killing doing this for other cars where there aren't easily available die-casts etc. (Mk1 Exige is one that springs to mind) or modded cars (Skylines, Scoobies, Evos etc)

ade
22-11-05, 12:36 AM
problem is the time it takes - its not commercially viable...

Theres a fine line between whats perceived as "good value" and whats not.

The above models are ?80 inc postage - if I increased this to ?100 then I probably wouldnt get any orders.

The missus thinks I should charge ?250 for each commission - seeing as how I practically live in the garage!

I'll probably only make a couple a month.

Ade , you are a very talented man . Those Novas look superb. You do realise with the skills you have , you could easily start a small , but popular buisness ? I think its time to seriously consider working for ones self mate . I would. It neednt stop at Novas either. People would bite your arms off dude ,cars are a source of pride . I go as far to say if I lived next door to you mate , I,d try to sit down and seriously talk money and a buisiness venture as I am able to model work myself . This is an outlet and oppertunatey . If its something you enjoy , think about it at least - there are a hell of a lot harder ways to make money........and in time you could get some one to do it for you ....
Get a site going , advertise in car mags , model peoples motors for em , knock em out . Hand crafted goods now a day cost a bomb - most of em are shite - yours aint .........
Just think , birthdays , retirements , passing test -first car , the list is endless.........
All the best mate !! Well done .

Oh yeah - the wifes right . Bang them prices up.

currently rebuilding the three that got returned to me (Mels, Keiths and an other)...trying to get them back out in time for Christmas.

Razorjack - yes had considered it as a business - the problem is that it just takes far too long to make them. I'll need to find faster methods. i considered getting a company to make all the shells but the cheapest I could find was ?15 + ?150 set up fee. Its not bad and would certainly take away the hastle however I'd need to get some more orders under my belt 1st.

Other cars could be made however its not profittable to go it alone and it takes ages to make the masters - I dent to footer about too long with them as well...

Nuno - your car is on the go - I do however need to make custom sides and a rear splitter - it'll be ready end January - hopefully!
