2l nova so far...

i have started this topic agian with a bit more info

Heres the story from the start...............

I bought i nova sr as a winter car when I had my saxo, but because i cant leave things alone I decided mmmm..... why not put a 2l engine into it. I asked scott (aka wise wilson) about this idea and he said that yip this would be easy. But I dont know how many months later but I can tell you its definatley NOT EASY!!!!

So scott set about welding the ?70.00 nova sr, but we soon realised this was not the best shell to do the conversion on and then we found another one locally that came up for sale, so yip I went and bought that, a 1.2l nova lux. The shell on this one was much better but not rust free

This is a pic of the 1.2l nova when i 1st bought it. As you can see the back arches have dents in them so we used the repair arches that we bought for the nova sr .

Then I had to find a donar car and it just happend that a friend of ine was selling a calibra, which had its engine rebuilt professionally 2 years ago, so yip u guested it I bought it!!!

next up it was time to take the engine out of the 1.2 nova, we decided lets not do it the normal way, lets put beer in the engine instead of water and let put nuts and bolts into the carborater while the engine was running. so as you can expect the engine blew it up

so after that we took the engine out

so then we starter ripping out the interior as I always wanted it to be stripped out

and then the doors, wings, boot, all windows etc came out to

we soon found out that the nova wasnt as rust free as we thought and scott got pissed of my me going "theres another hole and another one!!!!"

heres a wee list of the welding that had to be done or should i say BIG list!!!!!

both inner wings
front cross member
front slam panel
inner front chassis legs
front bulk head on both sides
some small patches on the floor
one small patch on the boot
rear quater repair panels on both sides
rear chassis leg and valance

On top of all this welding to put a 2l engine into a nova you have to we had to seem weld the whole engine for the extra power

next up was to loose some weight so we cut off all the brackets for the back seats

parts so far......

right so it was time to order some parts so i got on the phone to cossvaux and paid for a conversion kit (?400) this is one thing that fu*ked up this whole project as cossvaux took my cash and sent me engine & Gear box mounts,anti Roll Mounts (?100 part of the kit) but no rally driveshafts,hubs,Induction Kit (the other ?300 part of the kit) so anyway after 3 months of phoning,e-mail,texts and letters with no answer i found out the they had gone bust so im ?300 pound down still

g-max shocks with 60mm springs and 40mm springs for the front
full de-cat stainless steel exhaust

things are not running that smoothly though,sadly had a prob wi the drive shafts scott took from a donor nova gsi in the scrappie,when cleaned up we found out one was gubbed the other a ford!?!

as i've already shelled out ?400 on drive shafts,don't want to spend any more,any ideas?

1988/89 Nova GTE 22 spline driveshafts, there a few odd exceptions on GSi's but thats the rule of thumb, early GTE ones.

Also TD Nova ones can be at times.

99% GSi's are 28 Splines which are no good for XE Conversions.

Other route is to get a Big block pair of hubs machined down to fit inside a Nova Bearing and Carrier, i got my corsa ones done for ?20 and then you can use Straight forward Astra GTE/GSi driveshafts without chanigng the CV's about and shredding them every 2k miles.

just got the full kit

Manufactured by M-Tech, the kit contains:

- A set of engine and gearbox mounts.(i dont need up for sell)
- A set of motorsport driveshafts to enable the use of 2.0L inner and outer cv-joints.
- A pair of special 4-stud wheel hubs to suit the 2.0L outer cv-joints.
- New fastenings for front anti-roll bar.(i dont need up for sell)
- ?Green? airfilter induction kit.
- Fitting guide and wiring diagram

Basically that kit is a set of machined down hubs and Astra Driveshafts mate. Can buy the lot from a Scrapyard for ?25 and give the hubs to anyone with a lathe to turn down.

so there are only wee thing to be done then off for the enginer report hopefully then i'll get my first drive
i started fitting the all the interior bits and bobs
scott came up with the idea to remove the centre fans and fit the sat nav there instead of in the window so heres a few development pics from to day
(something i can do at last lol)

sorry not updated in a long time been busy

ok as u are all aware we were trying to get the car ready for donny which we managed to get the mot 2 days before we were to leave

all seemed to be going well till the friday morning when it was time to leave got 8 miles out of town and the window wiper motor decided to pack in when it was pissing with rain so had to go in m8s car to donny.

since then we got back and even if the wiper hadnt of given up i wouldnt of made it as the alternator is now fu*k so we have to replace this as the car doesnt have any power to do anything

As some of you may know the feature will not be happening now:(
Was working this morning niped out for 5 mins ta got to the petrol station and while i was stoped waiting to turn in a guy run up the **** of me @ about 30/40mph... what a sore head ive got & the whole of my back is killing me to... Its so depressing for me, Scott & everyone else that helped build the car as Fast car were getin back to me in the next couple of days with a date for the feature.

As you can see from the pics the whole back is in & both quarter panels are ****ed, the floor is all bend, the ross cage has been pushed forward even my sub frame of my seat is sitin sqint the drivers door doesn't close prop as the B piller is bent.
Goin to see if i can buy if back off the insurance, but not gonna re-shell just sell all the bits as ive lost interst in re-building it & i'm gonna buy a newer car
