hi,
was wondering if the inlet ports on the 1200 head are the same as the 1400 head?
cheers

If they are both SPI then yes.

But if the heads are carb heads, then No, the ports are different.

On the same subject wot head could i up grade to on my engine as standerd its 82 bhp its a 1.6 cavalier 1992 small block runing by carb
is a 1.4 sr head a good option and would i need the sr manifold?

they are both on carbs... i have found a manifold n twin 40's for a 1.4, but was wondering if they would fit a 1.2?

Nar it wont fit.
The 1.4 has square inlet ports, the 1.2 has cathedral shaped ports.
You need a t40 inlet that fits a 1300, as that has the same ports are a 1200.

@li-The 1.4sr head has the same port shapes etc as the 1.6 cav engine head.

Meaning you wont get any gain by fitting one, lol.

A ported 1400 SR head will still be a bit crap, hence why im swapping mine over for a nicely ported n polished 1300 item in a few weeks :D

Port the 1.6 head then, i assume that should have bigger valves etc, not sure tho.

there is a way to make the 1400 better - ive only done it once and its a real bitch to do-
only if you have no other heads or are bound by rules to use it-

It involves boring the head on a mill and inserting pre fabricated tubes into the port, then sealing them and blending them to the port line, that way you can remove the bend at valve throat and have a nice port thats inclined to. you also have to modify the manifold and redrill and tap holes in head for its new position.

use a 1.2 carb head, get the compression up a bit

@li: the 1200 and 1400 heads have the same small valves fitted

your existing 1600 square port head has larger valves and switching to either 1200 ro 1400 heads would probably be a backwards step

1300 and 1200 heads are similar, same valves etc, only difference is the combustion chamber is smaller onthe 1200 item meaning a higher compression ratio

Ah i see
