I'm not very "in-the-know" about engines unfortunately.

My SRi fails to start basically.
It turns over but never quite catches.
When it rarely does start, it raises to its idling revs then looses them, and cuts out.

I have checked all my spark plugs, as I think I had damp somewhere in my ignition system (the HT leads were sparking onto the engine) and switched my Distributor Cap. After this the engine started and ran normally, 6 hours later the problem has started again.

Recently before this problem started, when moving the engine would stutter, and sometimes stall itself, usually when I change gears but not always.

Can anyone shed some light on this? :?
I would really appreciate it

SRi is electronic pump, only carb engines have mech pumps.

As I would of guessed.

If anyone has an idea what this might be, or someone that knows about these "things" could find the time to talk to me on msn/pm or on here I would really appreciate it. This is my only car, and I've come to rely on it heavily :?

My msn email is jackassedjos@hotmail.com

Cheers,

Oh, I do have an immobilisor. I don't think that is the problem, but perhaps?

I recently put a GSi dashboard in the car, and I the problems started then.

When I first started the car after putting the dash in, it wouldn't hold its revs. Only when I put it into gear and moved it a foot or so would it do so. Coinsidence?

The Haynes manual mentiones the fuel filter... and in the recent weeks my fuel pump/filter/something else nearby has been making strange noises so perhaps its that!

Change the fuel pump relay, sounds like a fuelling issue.

The pump will also make strange noises if it is startved of fuel or on its way out.

when i was driving along in my gsi it just cut out for no reason.i changed the ecu,air flow meter, coil everything i had spares for then found out it was a ?30 fuel pump relay that caused so much head scratching.

have you trapped any wires when u put the gsi dash in?.
Hope that helps mate
