water marks caused by penetration of water in paint that has not cured/dried properly. Not good :( happens if u wash your car in bright hot sunlight too or too soon after painting. Remedy (according to a special painting book I have) is to sand back and refinish! :o the books Prevention guide suggests keeping out of rain till paint fully cured and do not allow water to dry on new finish (keep sheltered for several days after respray).
If u did paint job yourself your back to sq 1. if a body shop did it take it back to them - shoud have been cured before they returned car! (although it can take up to 3 months for all solvents to leave paint).
U could try that horrible colour wax stuff but I'd not recommend it (crap and washes off eventually anyway).
(book I have is called how to paint your car by Haynes)

it also recommends that u lacquer paint (clear coat) that way you seal the pain in and the only surface affected will be clear cotewhich can be repained without damage to paint (light 1500 wet n dry buffing and in worst case scenarios respray another clear coat) - at least paint will remain safe. :(

what i forgot to mention was the car had been resprayed when i got it and the previous owner said this had been done before he bought the car which was roughly 6 months before i got it. :(

My re-spray didn't suffer from any of this at all, and I sanded it down, rubbed it with rubbing compound and polished it up the same day I sprayed it! It still looks mint almost a year on. (not my car now though!)

Plus, it rained for days after and it just sat out on the road.

Maybe I did a better job that I thought :D
