might be worth checking out the 1600 cav mk2 heads and also the the mk2 ashtrays and see if they will mate up

Can't get them mate.
Just fit 40's, you won't regret it. lol

 i know m8 just cant afford them
in all fairness, get rid of the square port head, get a 1.6 MPI head, and a 1.3 sr manifold and 32/34 (or bigger if you can find one)

Would i find the 1.6 MPI head on something like a 1.6 8v r reg astra? :o

I've bought a e16se from a GSi, which I'm rebuilding to run on t40's. I'm preserving my 1.3 sport block, and transplanting a fully sorted 1.6. Anyway, I noticed the square inlet ports on the 1.6 head are tiny compared to the cathedral ports on the 1.3 - is a 1.6MPI head any different/better/easier to mate up?
P.S Has anyone else ever noticed how out of line the head and inlet manifold are on a std e16se???? (and that ports are square and manifold is round??!?!?)
cheers

The e16se has round inlet ports, not square.
Sounds like you have a mpi inlet(round port) on a square port head.
Which would also explain why the manifold dont line up correctly.
Sure it aint a 1.6 cav engine, 16sv IIRC.
That has square ports.

Lewis you must have the wrong head which may result in a lower CR if its from an SV engine. Think the valves might be smaller compared to the GTE SE head.
Ive got a Nova GTE head for sale if anyone needs one.
Btw Ive seen a Nova GSi (SE) running a weber 32/34 DMTL carb before. I would imagine the later SR inlet mates up to the head OK. Checking gaskets with a motor factor would have the answer.

Nice 1 so there is hope

it will bolt up to the head, but the ports wont match if its a gsi or gte head...
gte/gsi's amd sri had round port's where as 1.4 sr's have square port's

I wish it was a bit more straight forward

a cathederal 1.3sr or square 1.4sr inlet manifold will not work very well on a Round Mpi head.
Probably better off getting a cathedral shape head and maybe do a bit of work to it.
saying that Twin 40's will be most cost efficient, giving you more bhp/?.

13sr manifold is a pretty close match to a 1600se head
u just need to add a small amount of metal to the bottom corners of the inlet ports to get them the correct shape
but in all fairnes by the time u've paid an engineer to do that and fitted some crap 32/34 carb u'd have been easier and be developing more power just fitting the original EFI manifold and wiring/plumbing in the fuel injection
