are cat cams any good? was thinking to go for a 286deg or even 300deg

its on a 1.4 with 1.3 head with large valves and a little porting/polishing, 4 branch manifold too.

Kent AST2 all the way

The best with twin 40's imo, unless you're going for a rally spec engine...............

all small block cams are interchangeable, just need to be "carefull" of the dizzy drive as some dont always have both types cut in

My Kent AST17 cam and old Piper 285 had both slots cut in, so you should be safe with those. Does your catcam Stuart?

I'd go with the AST2 or piper 285.

Or go for the AST17 and run solid lifters (Kent have it as a mechanical cam not hydralic)

I managed 119bhp and 110pft with a AST17 running 1400cc and a big valve 1300 head.

its got both cut in too, but i heard some stories of people not having the right dizzy drive a while back.

going solid is fecking expensive esp if your not going to make use of the benefits of the lairy profile imo. soilds are generally for track/race use which are naturally revved hard. but your average joe on the street user would not need the solid setup... so id suggest a hydraulic profile. AST2 seems to do well (dans car being total proof) and the piper BP300 is also a well proven cam in jims and bruces engines (diffent intake applications too)

i was thinking of going for like a 300deg cam and loads of work on the engine, but decided not to do loads as im not going to be racing competitivley.

but i now am thinking of ported and polished head, t40's and a cam, but i still want a high deg cam, what would be the limit?

cheers, lew

Jims engine runs fine on the BP300 cam. and dans runs fine on the AST2.

only real difference is that dans has oooodle of toruqe/power from about 2000 up to high 6K's then looses intrest, whereas jims dosent really wake up till about 3.5K then screams its heart out to 8K pulling all the way.

your call really

Humm if i was you i would try to find one that works in the middle of the two,so you get a more rounded perfomance,if there is one of course.
