are the ratios shorter on this box?

will it fit no bother?

will this make any difference to acceleration??

out of an 'h' plate 1.5td.

im after insurance friendly mods ya c

cheers all

I don't have a clue if it will fit or not, but it would be pointless because generally diesels have longer ratios than a petrol!!

should fit but no matter what gear box you put on a 1.2i will never be fast

As above, diesels have longer ratios as the engines dont rev as high.

can you put this into dumbass terms??

the difference between short and long ratios etc

cheers

it will be slower but use less fuel

all f10/5 have the same ratio's with either 3.94:1 or 4.18:1 on sr models. the f13/5 also has tha same ratio's with a 3.94 final drive. the f13cr does have shorter ratio's but still has 3.94:1 final. so for acceleration you would be best getting a f13cr and fitting a 4.18:1 final drive out of an f10/5 from a c12nz or an sr

sorry i get confused when it comes to ratios etc,

alll im after is faster acceletaion which im guessing will mean a lower top speed?

i figured TD's need to rev high so that the turbo keeps on boost, so shorter gears would keep it revving high. therefore a longer 5th would compensate for motorway speeds??

or am i totally off??

Totally off, dervs don't need to rev high, the usually only rev to about 5-6k, and you never really need to rev them past 3k anyway, so therefore a longer ratio gearbox suits better!
I know someone who put a 205 GTi gearbox in a 205 D turbo, the thing was almost undriveable, all revs and no go!!!!

A simple way to explain it is
-a diesel engine revs to about 5K max ish RPM.
So the gear ratio needs to be longer as the engine cant rev to 6-7K rpm,the lower engine revs needs to be compensated for with long gears to get higher speeds from lower engine revs.

I think a diesel engine doing like 3K rpm in 4th gear would be doing the same speed as a petrol engine at 5K rpm in 4th with a close ratio box
i may have got myself confused there tho/\

if you dont understand ratios dont ask just ask what box can you fit so your car accelerates faster. the simple answer is f13cr with a 4.18:1 final drive out of an f10/5 from an sr

good ole burgo keeps it simple ;)

that is simple enough lol

burgo mate just to clear things up there are close ratio F10 clusters

1.4sr's had CR394 boxes on F10 bellhousings
