Door builds/pods - ideas anyone??

Hi,

As the rest of the car will be non-standard I am looking to make up some cool looking doorcards with a nice ICE speaker build.

Anyone got any pics to give me some ideas - i.e some shows over the last few years - GM and non GM .

I've seen this but can do a lot better with the fibreglass

Sorry no pics but I built 6" components into the doors of my first car (1.2 Nova).
In my GSi I built kickwell pods using 4" Alpines. You can go to 5" or even 6" depending if you want to angle the speakers towards the driver or not. I used 4"s because I like 8" subs & they will crossover the best together + Ive got the speakers angled towards my ears for the best sound stage.

Trimmed in Black vinyl under the black parcel shelves of a GSi dash they look factory.

i can tell ya easiest way to make some kickass simple doorbuilds but it depends if ya wanna remove them easy or not

basicly all i did was got some thin plywood bout same thickness as door card then drew round the doorcard to get my shape then cut it out and mounted it to the door to check for a good fit, you need to remove the winder which is on a u shaped pin, them cheapy screwdrivers ya get in crackers are mint for that, now what ya need to do is the scary bit, screw it to the door, i used 30 screws just the little self tappers work mint now what ya do is drill your pilot holes all around the circumfrence(i cnt spell) of the door and screw it in with your screws,

now ya need to make some spacer for your speakers i used 25mm mdf and had to use 4 rings on each door my speakers are that deep

basicly just cut the rings out using your templates that come with the speakers only you will know how many is enougth then close the door and place it as close down to the bottom left hand corner as ya can without fouling your previously put in tappers( ya can put it where ya want but im telling ya the easiest way, now draw a mark round it and screw it in using at least 4 woodscrews you will need to drill pilot holes same as ya did for your door, now ya put your nxt spacer on top of that and screw that one on and the nxt and so on till you have the required depth now ya need a hole saw for wood and this is where ya find out if youve done your guesswork as i call it properly ya bore a hole in the plywood bout in the centre of your templates only needs to be big enuf to get your fingers to the bottom of the door and pull you wires through that youve fed through previously,

attach them to your speakers and screw em on

now ya cover your doorcard with carpet, vinyl, cheap carbon fibre stick on stuff, paper mache whatever you choose to do, you will have to do the speaker build seperatly

now replace your window winder and opening handle cover
you will have to bodge something up for a door handle ive perfected the art of sticking my finger in the window seal and pulling the door as hard as i can
