25-10-05, 09:08 PM
So they spent time and money doing a turbo conversion and then covered everything in cheap tubing stuff? and held the wires together with tape??

's funny, I saw that tubing in a car shop and wondered what it would look like in an engine bay. Now I know

What's the story behind this car and owner then?

It looks like it's all ready been near the scrappy with the rust on that chassis leg.

Ben
27-10-05, 08:12 PM
The rust on the chassis arm is very very light surface as its had a plate welded over the orignal mount hole and this mount welded to that, its only where not been finished very well.

Lee
28-10-05, 08:35 PM
When you say 'engine fitting only' does that include the wiring?

Good fucking luck is all i can say LOL

Ben
29-10-05, 04:56 PM
Nope he wants to do the wiring himself to save money.

you might as well set fire to it now and save the poor fire brigade a job, and a load of poor commuters when it torches out, which it definately will.

That thing is one big short waiting to happen!!!

So... lovely.. Thought I had seen some heaps of junk where i work....

Has that chap never heard of electrical connectors! always a good idea...
Also why bother with a Corsa... Do i properly and get a Nova.

Any way with reference to the wiring. A while back my place recovered a calibra, don't know what he had done but the whole loom is toast. Some mega underbonnet fire he had. Melted the cam cover, brake master cylinder, PAS pipes, rad hoses.

You know, nothing serious.....

Strangely enough don't think he wants it doing now hes got a quote!!

Seriously though that Corsa is just plain old dangerous. Stick the engine in & give him it back and hope you NEVER see it again. Looks like it'll catch fire as soon as he connects the battery any way....

The engine fitting is the easy part, wiring it in is the hard part imo. What a complete plank.

wiring is a piece of piss. i dont quite get why people are "affraid" of it... never mind

Lee

wiring is a piece of p**s. i dont quite get why people are "affraid" of it... never mind
Agreed, itn not exactly a Z Let! Engine harness is plug and play, just 3 wires to power it up from the Interior loom. It appears hes attempted to make his own loom while blindfolded and asleep.

ANDYRACER
20-11-05, 04:22 PM
Yeh plug and play is easy, but i was talking about my experience with wiring in this 1.6 engine into a spi nova. Its not plug and play

EXACTLY what i think. I hate it when people mention "looms". At the end of the day a "loom" is just a bunch of wires taped together. A wire goes from one point to another. If you break it down it is relatively simple. When i hear about people paying for "looms" i really do laugh.

Nick

maybe to people like you stu, it's incredibly easy as it's your profession.

it's easy for me as i've done electronics at 6th form but i can see why it's daunting to people. Playing with real electronics from scratch , on a breadboard it's easy to connect something ever so slightly wrong (wrong chip pin for example) and the whole lot wont work.

but yes, i suppose "looms" are pretty straight forwards. Even the dreaded digi dash can be wired up without even needing a guide. most of the time it's colour for colour

phatnova!!!
21-11-05, 01:53 PM
what the F**k is all that about please ? what a mess i agree do it properly but in a nova ! the car is a mess i would be ashamed of myself if i owned that pile of poo :o

Wiring or conversions are not difficult, off putting maybe as there seems like a lot of work there to do but once you get it all in front of you it usually comes together ok.

vauxhall wiring is so easy its a joke though, other manufacturers looms can be much more difficult to get your head round, try putting a gts skyline loom into a 200sx, not fun one bit

TBH ben if your customer come to me and asked for that to be put right but said he wanted to wire it then i would turn the work away,

I would only see the whole job done right or not at all as its not something i would to put my name to looking at the mess it was already in.

I appreciate you'll do a good job of the conversion but making it work right and look factory (which is what I always aim for) is gonna be hard when some muppet insists he wires it with a electrical kit he got in his Christmas stocking.

Now doing all the work including wiring, bigger brakes, mot etc etc etc

ANDYRACER

Ben
04-12-05, 02:20 AM
Wirings not hard, just need patience.

ANDYRACER
04-12-05, 02:21 AM
But the state that engine bay was in, dont u need to start with another loom? that other loom looked pritty butchered.

Ben
04-12-05, 02:25 AM
The engine loom is all self contained and has not been touched a all just plugged straiht onto new engine.

Main problem is on the N/S where they have hacked the 2x looms apart but thats basic work as its match colour for colour as its only for tailights, fuel pump etc etc.

The main mess under the dash i found to be for some unbeknown reason he has removed the loom from the drivers door and coiled it up in the footwell so just need to refit this and thats that lot gone.

Then a good old check around removing unwanted clutter and jobs a good un.

ANDYRACER
04-12-05, 02:26 AM
Ahh right sounds easy when explained like that  want to come finish off my wiring

Ben
04-12-05, 02:30 AM
Just break it down and do one at a time and remove any un needed wires.

ANDYRACER
04-12-05, 02:31 AM

Damn good job you ended up doing the wiring mate... sounds like you know what you are doing.

Frigging diagnostics scares the hell out of me at work but hey ho only one way to learn.

Just got that CD multichanger to wire in me nova now. Got to find a live feed for the multichanger. Would it be Ok to pick it up off the feed for the head unit do you reckon?
