There's a reason fast cars are expensive to insure for young drivers...

^ 15, but the Cav SRi is only one group lower... I'd bet the Astra would be a lot more insurance because of the GTE badge tho

cav's are for chavs, especially the 8v sri with its hanging off exhaust an piss soaked seats that they all come with. If you want a fast car then dont start off with something big.

ummm maybe i didnt make it that clear im 19.......and most cars i think i cant actually get insurance for unless i front which im not goona do as i like having no claims but if there is any insurance friendly performance cars at the cheap then please do tell (i think astra gte is defo no on the insurance till i 21)

bump
20-10-05, 11:56 AM
insurance friendly performance cars is an oxymoron. any reason to bump up the premium and they will.

if you want to reduce it ,go for garage storage and a thatcham cat one alarm and maybe move to a good postcode.

i'm still in a 1L as i just don't have the cash for anything bigger.

iv got a 1.4 SR for my first car, ok it aint a astra 16v but, the insurance is getting alot cheaper for me and for a 1.4 its quick, actually beat a 1.6 16v escort in it and the car was full of stuff.
then in a few years i'll look foward to having a 16v turbo or somthing, im only 18 so iv got years to get a well powerfull car.

Just do what most of us do, Start low and work your way up the car ladder, Or in my case Up then back down the car ladder :o

I insured my Nova Gsi for ?800 tpf&t when I was 19 and i've probably got one of the worst postcodes in the country.

At 38 yrs of age , i,d love summat with more power , but I,ve a 1.2 and will stat low as possible , unless a couple of kids appear in the rabbit household. Why do you need a faster car mate ..?

How about a :-
Suzuki Swift 1.3 16v 100bhp - Fast little car.
Toyota Starlet turbo (Glanza V) another 1.3 16v but this time with a turbo. 133hp

Or go for a good diesel.

Jack
20-10-05, 03:25 PM
Starlet Turbo\'s off - afaik they\'re all imports, so expect silly insurance premiums.

The Swift seems to be a good choice, around group 6-8, but the GTi spikes at 11. At 19 thats doable, but will be expensive.

its alright no ones perfect lol, actually cavs arent that bad especially the 8vs then engines are very hard to kill. Probably why the safe wickadd crew always nick them

Get a nova sri or a corsa sport, both fairly quick cars that wont ass rap u on insurance and both can be had cheap.

Philsutton
21-10-05, 12:13 PM
i was fully insured on a 2lt nova at 19, you just need to find the right insurance company

Jos
21-10-05, 12:45 PM
Nova SR, SRI or a Corsa SRI/Sport would be pretty fun to drive without stupidly high insurance premiums.

I have an SRI with all mods declared (see feature) and insurance is costing me ?1200. If I didn't want to pay so much, I'd of kept my old 1 litre nova and stuck with my insurance of ?400.

Fun = Money :(

If its your first year of insurance, then I'd advise get a smaller engined car. Else you will likely crash and then you're buggered for X many years.

Yeh cav are abit chav but i gotone as a second car. The 2.0 16v sri and with 150bhp its not that bad!! PLus to have a good cav (if such a thing) it needs to be clean and not covered with boy scout gear, like neons etc!!

A crx or a civic is a nice car. I would never buy a nova if it was my daily drive!!

You have to look round, at first you have to bonus of starting to drive at 19 instead of 17, but then again that probably means you have no ncb. Just thought id add that cav's are great i love them, and the sri 130 was quick, and almost bomb proof as phil said, and with the right insurer, they are affordable.

What i will say though is do what everyone else has said, start at the beginning and work up, although if you do want a fun little car then its gotta be a nova really. My 1400 SR isnt costing me much and im only 19, and its not slow either

antinator
21-10-05, 02:59 PM
oooook i have 2 years ncb though (y do ppl think i passed at 19? :o ) and i have had about 3 cars now all i think r slowa s shit also need 2 know what insurance company is it that let u have a 2 ltr nova at 19????and was it much

Philsutton
21-10-05, 03:05 PM
adrain flux, an i had points an no ncb was about 1500 i think

if you have 2 years ncb you should have no problem insuring a 1400 SR, i only have 1 years no claims and mines 700 FC, so even insuring something like a GTE shouldnt be too difficult, again a car which i have had quotes on for not much more than mine
