Fitted the coilovers last weekend, but didnt sort the hight or anything out...
so yesterday we set about slamming the car on them...

so with the wheels off we found what we thought was causeing the smell of burning rubber...(another story..)
sort that out,and set about winding down the coilovers....
how i got them from olly(thank you)
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/bennh2/coiloverfun4.jpg
so wound them right down to the end of the thread....all ok, wheel back on,
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/bennh2/coiloverfun1.jpg
now with the car on the ground it made a horrible noise as i turned the car around...so jacked it up and went to spinthe wheel to listen for the noise....
and the wheel would spin.....
look underneath...the tyre was sitting on the coilover ajustment platform..
fence the smell of rubber from the night before..
with a nice big cut in the tyre i started to get the hound, only think i can do is full the camber out..so that still fitting...now its dark i've got the hound big time! so we give up for the night...came home via lift from dan to get changed, still thinking i'm gonna have to change my wheels...then remember keith robinsons has the same set up...with no probs...
so ask him how,what,why,who....and he knows the prob staright away...
the helper spring....take it off....lol
so this morning rip it all part again to remove the helper spring..
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/bennh2/coiloverfun2.jpg
now with the helper spring off there loads of room....
so wing them right down so its low...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/bennh2/coiloverfun3.jpg

so with that sorted refit them....all ok camber ajusted by eye rims on..all ok
now there a little hard which i wanted as the helper spring is as soft as chesse.
Just needs to go a lil lower!
and i'll be happy, getting them all set up tomoz....the finished item,

I remember a mate of mine had some on his golf and removed the small spring (its only there to take the small bumpst to give better ride etc) and his came down loads, mines on spax rsx front coliovers at the mo,and i think there shorter springs as mines no where near the wheel what so ever, but i know a lad whos rub on his tyres so he spaced the wheels out,i real hope i dont get this problem with the new AVO's i bough to go on in replace of the spax

I have this problem with my LEDA coilovers aswell :( The spring platforms rub on the inside edge of the tyre so you can only take them down so far, and there is no helper spring to remove either

Interesting how you are having problems with the coilovers catching on the Allesios. I'm actually changing wheels from 100+ Tornados to some Allesios as I've found the Allesios actually provide more clearance.

dont forget gentlemen that the beauty of coil overs means that you can change for shorter same rate springs to move the platform up to clear the wheels without effecting the drop you have.....

the springs are failry cheap too.

the springs are failry cheap too.

Indeed, they are alot cheaper than standard or lowering springs. Something daft like ?10 a spring :)

hi guys,
jim,now i have the camber all set up i have about 1,1 and a 1/2 gap between rim/tyre and the coil bit....

keith where can you get the springs from??

and to both of you, what are the best top mounts to use with coilover?

eccentric top mounts.

ben, the springs can be purchased from tweeks, rally des, (possibly track store), most decent motorsport shops can supply, and i belive coil spring can do them too. direct from Avo too, CP got 300lb sprigns and 1.5" shorter than the std avo ones from them.

keep an eye out on rally parts etc as they run coiliys up front. they are "universal" aslong as you get the length and rate you want ;)
