Basically, was going to fit my gte cam today into my 1200.
I got as far as about to take the crank pulley off and realised i had no 19mm socket
So i started put it back together, to have a go tomorrow when i got my 19mm socket back off my dad.

Put it all back together, put dizzy back on in what i thought was the same place it came from.
Turned key, it runs-ish, but misfires, pops, backfires etc.

I have checked the timing marks, which are all inline, as i never started to remove the cambelt.
I have also made sure the leads are on the right spark plug, which they are.
But it deffo sounds like the timing is out.

Any ideas what else to try/checK?

cheers

You can adjust the position of the dizzy forward and bk to advance or retard the timing, lossen the 13mm bolt underneath it that secures its bracket and twist it frowards or backwards, (with engine runnin so you can hear it) and fingers crossed you should be able to guess pretty much where it was cos if you lined the two marks up and thats not quite where it was then thats y things have gone pete tong, hope this helps ya bud!!!

Im not sure if the dizzy actually adjusts the timing on a SPI engine.

Altho it must do something, as thats what was wrong
When i had the engine running i mustn't have tightened the nut holding the dizzy fully, and the dizzy had turned itself and thrown the timing completely out, hence popping, flames out of exhaust etc

All sorted and running now.

Still couldn't fit my gte cam, couldn't get the bas**rd crank pulley nut undone, o well have to have another go tomorrow.
