View Full Version : Front panel rust worries.

Are rust holes on the front panel / bar ( the area the vin is pinned ) an MOT inspection point . I,ve found this area on the passenger side , shot with holes...its been treated and filled , and will be finished tomorrow and painted , but - I,m worried it,ll fail ...I,d put up pics but my cams playin up .....cheers

is the rust in both corners of the slam panel, near were the wings bolt on. because my car has both corners rotton and it passed its last mot with it like that

only on the passenger side mate..... i hope it,ll go thru I,ve spent a small fortune on this little motor...

Mine,s had a bit of plate welded over rust hole in the place you describe, so I assume its a failure point (it was done when I bought it so I,m not sure) But it,s passed twice since. :D

I dont think its a failure point.
As its not within 30cm of a strutural part of the car i dont think.

inturged now, a my MOT is next wednesday and i have the same problem, not getting a new front end till christmas!

i dont think it is a failure.....

but i replaced mine got it second hand for a tenner which aint bad and it will do for now.


its not as if they are hard to change either...

spoke to a mate whos an inspector - this area is generally ok so long as its still attached to the wing , the most important areas to watch are just behind the firewall , the battery tray and suspension turrets....rest easy guys......... :wink:

crossmembers structural, the slam panel isnt, hence you get removeable ones etc. In theory you could cut it out and they cant say much.
