whats everyones oil temps read like in their gte's gsi's?
iv got a gte lump and my oil temps reading about 120-125 on motorway trips at like 85mph for a while and iv had it up higher when booting.
then round town in traffic etc upto about 110

As kev said, that is high oil temps and thats not even temps on a track!!
Is the temp sensor new?? you sure it reads corectly??
And a 20xe oil cooler is easy to fit to your 8v. You need the take off plate to plug the cooler into the block at the oil filter output.
But if it was me i would sort the proplem that is cauing the high temp, rather than covering up the fault with a cooler. As a std gsi engine does not need one.

IIRC i read somewhere that oil breaks down at about 120degrees, if it breaks down you have to change the oil.
Erm probably get told off here but is it the standard clocks youre running, cos if it is thats oil pressure not temperature, sounds a bit silly saying it but oh well bring on the abuse!!
shit really i thought it was high
i got just valvoline 10/40 init that the local motor factors reccomended
is that the right grade?
its a mechanicalt gauge that i have a boss braised into the sump on the front,i need to clean the line off as some of the sheathing is tatty and i dont want it to earth out as it'll give me dodgy readings!
on the sump it has 2 parts to it doesnt it, would it be a problem if i fit another sump off another 8v lump that wasnt two parts, would the splash back things make a great deal of difference?
also my normal water temp is 90 but in traffic it doesnt take long at all to get upto 100 the fan cuts in!!
its just been setup and come out bit low but only 105 break so that side of it should be fine
any ideas anyone?
cheers james

i'd take the sensor out and put it in a pan with some water, heat the water on a stove and monitor the temperature with a proper thermometer, get it upto around 90c and see what the readings on the oil temp guage are saying
