Putting a 2.0 engine into a Nova and want to know where I need to weld the engine bay, so has anyone got any pics?

To quote the Nova Competition Build Manual "...an addittional 25mm run of weld every 35mm along EACH visible body seam". Depending what you want to do with the car I can reccommend the Group A Chassis reinforcement kit from Harry Hockley or Pro-tech too. Then the bugger will never bend! Don't forget to make space for the alternator though!

Likewise, I didn't do as much, just did what needed to be done...

God who did the welding in those first pics? What a talent

The key area if you are chucking in an XE, is the area shown in the 3rd pic i.e where the front cross member joins the 2 engine chassis rails and where the front tie bar is strapped to. The strengthening kits provide weld on plates to support this and other areas. The danger with older rusty novas is that this area cracks and splits apart once the XE with its extra weight and power is in. We didn't weld in strengthening cos the engine was still a 1.6 and not going rallying.

Have started welding my bay, thats easy enough, but how did you guys get your bays so clean to start with?

Have degressed mine etc but its still filthy - Willbe respraying the bay in a different coulour soon, so I need it to be spotless.

Any tips?
