View Full Version : 50mm carbs- too big?
As above.
Would 48's be a better option?
All help and advice appreciated!
Rob.
Sorry - its a C20XE that I'm rebuilding.
45's ideally.....
50's and 48's are just that much too big for no valid gain, unless you get them uber cheap lol

like stu said, unless you are going stupid on the engine then go for 48s, 50's are far to big an waste of time. 45's on a standardish engine would be best.
Cheers guys.
Will probably be getting a set of 48's.
Many thanks.

i used to use 48s on my 240hp+ engines before i went to injection.
but 45s is best as the guys above have said.
the problem with modern 48s are that they are based on 50s bodies... (only use them on 2.4 N/A cossies etc)

Thats quite some power from carbs! - What spec were the engines?
So there is no real point in 48mm carbs?
Just stick with 45mm?

i was running twin 48s on my xe, got 190bhp on the rollers but decided to stick the lot on ebay so will be on in a few day i think. Selling carbs, sbd manifold, filters, dizzy, rev limiter, coil, amplifier, oil breather filter, fuel pump and pressure regulator/filter. The noise that comes off these is amazing.

240+ were originally circuit engines- Touring car spec head, port bored, Omegas, steel rods, dry sumped usual stuff- on VP07 Swindon cams. Usually gave 255-260ish.
now on injection they can be classed as a tarmac rally engien as much more drivable due to managmnet.
your mans carbs- hes got everything- might be worth a look.
Steven
:o - Would kill for an engine like that!
Cheers Steven!
