Right, i have a new computer tower.

I've installed all programs e.t.c and now would like to transfer all my Vids,Music and Photo's from my old machine onto this new one.

I put about 15gb worth of music onto my ipod, and then tried acsessing it on my new computer (using it as a USB storage device) and it says I/O access error !

Without taking it anywhere, is there a blatently obvious way to copy the contens ? something silly like a double ended USB cable ?

I have one monitor but two of everything else so i can have them both running at the same time if that helps !

Thanks Nick

hmm... can you get the music back from the ipod onto the old hdd? You could then add the old hdd as a secondary drive in the new pc and copy it over from that in windows...

oooh yep i've just read up onit.

Looks like my options are to do the "slave" drive , or get a special paralell connection cable and set the comps up to share folders.

Seeing as it's under warrenty and from a local shop i'l see if the kind chap will do it for free seeing as i've just bought a whole computer from him :-D

IMO adding the second drive as a slave is much easier than trying to network them together

I would have thought networking them would have been easier - especially if you have xp?

:?

I was thinking exactly the opposite - have you tried networking on XP? its a nightmare!

networking would be a slower transfer, can you not just leave the 2nd hard drive as a perminant slave in the tower, you can never have to much backup space

In my view Dpnova has hit the nail on the head. If the HDD in the old machine is still ok then just put it in to your new machine. You can never have enough HDD space. I have over 700gb in one of my machines and im filling it up! I never thought I would but hey there you go.

Also you can have all your important files on both drives. So that if one dies you don't lose any information.

lol - About 190gb
I may have to buy another HDD to stick in there soon. I have alot of business backups as well.
