ign switch/steering column

A friend has just had somebody attempt to steal her mk1 saloon, the ignition switch/steering lock has been knackered. D'you reckon it would be quicker & cheaper to get a whole column assembly from a scrapper? or should we rebuild the lock

Go for the colum as removing the whole barrel is difficult in that the bolts that clamp it together are ground round, ie no spanner will take them off. You need to chisel them off, put the chisel to the out side and knock it forward and usually after you do it pretty much fucks the bolts.
