View Full Version : the cars dead (now with pics)
after kicking as much ass around silverstone and getting a 5.89 second 0-60 time, the car has finally died a death.
what is more frustrating is, i was doing 20mph as i had pulled off from the lights.
slipped cam belt and bent valves.
not sure on how many, but enough to kill the car.
so the car is now off the road and i am left walking every where.
winter rebuild now.
:(
DOH. Sore one mate. stick a 12300SR nin it while you rebuild the first enggine. It'll save you from loosing weight, ugh, exercise!! Yuck!!!
arse, no guarentee from the garage that did the work?

unlucky mate, can't sell it, sort the engine, and get it back outon the road lol
Sorry to hear about your bad luck Sean.
Rebuild it bigger and better!
Fingers crossed the Billy head aint too damaged.
pics to follow, but here is the out come of ripping the head off tonight.
the kent veneer pulleys. one of the bolts came loose and fell into the timming belt.
this caused the cam belt to jump a tooth or too.
still got to take the head off, but all the manifold etc is all off. only the head to remove.

Its never good when something like this happens. It happened on my engine when i had fitted verniers but luckally i had only ran it up on the garage and i saw a bolt fly out. I turned the engine off and discovered the other 4 bolts were all loose but luckally i had had no valve to piston contact. I had forgotten to tighten them when i fitted the pullys.

could of been nasty that!!!
guess you'll be using abit of Lock-tight once the engine is rebuilt so it dont happen again!
this is the little git that caused all my problems

the damage to the valves

the head is now off and getting repaired as we speak, 8 new valves and 8 new guides also. plus a skim and a de-coke of all the rubbish on it.
only main problem i had was getting a threaded star shapped head bolt off.
also, went to halfords and the person i spoke to, knew exactly what size star bolt i needed for the head bolts, i almost fell over, but fair play to him.
thanks to antonio at A&M garage 01244 818868 (top fella who builds vaux rally cars and has access to rollers)
also stu for the endless phone calls to him when i reached a problem.
chris t for letting me wake him up yesterday lol
rexy, just cause he's sexy, i mean for getting new head gasket set
and
riggy, who helped me source new valves etc.
bit of a shitter. gd to see yeah putting it back together tho

Not good. least the pistons look only pitted. So not major.

Well glad your not going to through the towel in yet then mate, should be even quicker once done, mine was due to the skim, more compresion.
Scott
Glad to hear its being put back together :)
pistons look fine :D just get it all cleaned up lol.
well i am now waiting on the garage to come back to me with my head all done.
i think its a good price too.
de-coked, chemically cleaned, heat treated and skimmed.
16 new valves and 16 new guides
fully rebuilt back to brand new condition
?330.
whilst this is getting done, i have stripped the rocker cover completely and resprayed it to make my engine look a bit cleaner.
hope to have the car on road by next week end.
also fitted some poly race rear bushes, a sbd manifold and a full jp system.
then the car is off to be set up on the rollers.
so come mk meet, it'll be all singing and dancing.
oh and i'll have my dif fitted by then too.
