What are thse cars like? My brother is away to look at one tonight? a 1.3 GTi, twin cam 16 valve - I heard they were rapid, 0-60 in 8.4 or summat. He needs cheap insurance so he's keen on the idea of one. Let me know what im up against!

even though it's a 1300, it wont be cheap to insure cos it does 0-60 in 8.4!

it's like a Diahtsu Charade 1.0 T, people think they'll but one cos it's a 1.0 and it'll be cheap insurance...WWWWWWWWWrong!

if it's quick and sporty he'll be fisted by the insurance like every other fcuker on the boards :(

I thought they were 1.6's are something.....um.....I'm impressed.
There's two nice ones near me, ones white, ones red, both lowered, alloyed, kitted etc.

I went with him into inverness to look at the car - was in an area called the ferry (rough as fcuk) and I think the car was stolen!:O They guy only wanted ?700 for it - said he had it a while, then when we got into the car he didn't know how to put the interior light on, get reverse e.t.c......
that's when alarm bells started ringing! he was just dodgy, just a feeling, so persauded my brother not to part with any cash.
It was quick tho, for a 1.3 it felt really torquey ya know?
Going to Aberdeen to look at a red J plate on 15's next.
Oh and he got a half decent quote for it too.

some had 1.6 engines but had same power output as 1.3, The 1.6 was a saloon and was fourwheel drive, same gogo but more fun on the bends :)

That was probably a one off tho - i mean 14SR does 96 top end! In a race i'd put money on the swift. Not against my GSi of course. I don't think they have bad engines, a 16 valve twin cam!

The swift GTi a lad i worked witha while back had was absolutely standard and that was doing 120mph down the m1 with three of us in the car (2 passengers) - and it was like lightning setting off.
I'd have one in a flash if i could afford the insurance and the parts.

well that's what I seen in my Max Power mag. Anyway, we all know that 14SR's do 130 don't we? :-/
Just saying that a standard Swift GTi would beat a 14SR Nova.

The office test results for the 1.3 SR top speed was always quoted as 105 in magazines of the time, and 103 for normal 1.3's, the slight difference being due to the slightly better aerodynamics and the different gear-box final-drive ratio.

Remember that speedos aren't accurate too, and if your speedo reads 105, you're probably only doing 95 (about 10% out at that speed), but it depends on wheels/tyres etc.

Where you from Rich.dale, my mates got a white one in wallasey with 15" voodoos on, nice induction kit and xhaust, sounds good and goes like fcuk (when his clutch is working!!), and theres a red one by r's aswell with wheels and an exhaust on, just thought u mite b from the same area??!!

I got a SRi (1.4 MPi) and my m8s swift can just beat me off the mark, but i beat him on top end, cruised and 70mph then kept going till 1 of us left the other (on an airfield of course).

P.S. Givena nice run, mine goes off the clock (130mph) and would be nice to know wat it actually is one day. Got 118mph at revs Top Speed day :)
