Just Bought one, its got a 16 Engine and its a MPi item from a Cav, is this the Same as the GSi Engine? The head Gaskets away in it as well but realisticly, am i gonna need a new head? Is it a 16v head or are all the 16vs EcoTech-Rocker Shaped? Seen the engine in a mag and it was described as a 16 Valver.

What engine does it have?
a 16v?

Whats the engine code?
Does it have the ecotec cover on it?

Just looks like an SRi Nova Engine with the EFi Inlet on the top next to the Bulk head? Anyone got any pics and i'll soon point it out?

Yes, like that but in 1600 Form, also possibly with a different Distributar set up. These 1600 heads hard to come by or can i use any 1600 head with the EFi set up?

Ah right, if it looks like that SRI engine, but 1600, then it will be the GTE engine.
8v MPI.

If the head gasket has gone, depending if its warped the head or not, you will just need the head skimming, new gasket/head bolts etc.
It depends if it was used much with the gasket blown.

Hadn't the GTE engine got the old OHC rocker cover and not the MPI item though? I'm told that the head gasket goes quite often on the car, several times. Would i be as well to get another head?

make sure when you get a new gasket you get it skimmed, dont cut corners or you may well end up paying for another gasket and bolts!!! it may end up costing alot more if you dont thats what happend to my m8 with a k-series rover. told him but he did not listen (piss my leg off)

The gte/gsi engine usually has EFI, or 1.6 Injection on the either rocker cover/throttle body area
If the head gasket keeps blowing, then as Marsden said its probably because the head hasn't been skimmed, and is slightly warped.

sounds like a C16SE which had a different head to a E16SE (the GTE engine)

the C16SE was used in later gsi's as well as astra mk3's i dont think it was ever fitted to cavaliers tho

Right, knowing the local boys up the part of the world its coming from, its more than likely not been skimmed. <My main concern is the car isn't going. The Battrey is dead and the apparently the starter is fucked as well. And i've just heard the cars never been running since the engine was fitted, a bit of a worry me thinks. Its ment to be a SRi car so wiring up the engine shouldn't be any problem, should it?
