lock cylinder

I,ve just replaced the indicator switches in my motor and after following the haynes manual ,and removing the lock cylinder ( key in position 2 ect ) I cannot get the cylinder to return in its housing , cos the steering lock mech is preventint it .....HELP !!

Job done - and it was as fiddley as feck to get the lock back in , I wouldnt advise anyone to remove the lock barrel for any other reason than if its had it . :evil:
