I can't sell my car so I'm being forced to trade it in. I seen a Clean Cavalier SRi in my local garage, J reg in white wi 15's. Looks Ok I guess.
I never keep my cars for long so it would just be a stop gap, until I've saved enough money for something better.
The thing is, are they worth having? a Big 2litre lump? They are cheaper insurance at grp 12 I guess. Anyone got one? had one? What are the good/bad things about them?

I love Cav SRi's mate (might be getting one next), and as long as it's been looked after, they run for mega miles without trouble....that's why Taxi firms use 'em...reliable and strong work-horses.

That's one prob though....it could have mega mileage already...been a taxi, or reps car...not necessarily a bad thing, as taxis are usually highly maintained.
If you can get the second edition of Total Vauxhall (find a mate with a copy or back-order it), it's got a buyers guide on the Cav SRi.
I understand that Revs did one recently too...again, in the last mag or the one before.

They're pretty solid cars....don't rust anywhere near as bad as the older Cavs (or Novas for that matter!)....just watch the rear arches and rear section of the sill, but even ones I've seen on the scrap yard have had solid body work.....most I've seen there have only been there 'cos of accident damage!
Only seriously high milers with total neglect rust badly.
Watch for the usual things like with any car basically.....engine smoke, rattles from the gear box, brake judder, suspension wear etc.
Looking at the guide in Total Vauxhall, the main concern seams to be checking for blue smoke, and oil in the coolant (or vice-versa)....every other thing it mentions, it says things like negotiate on price, then go to the scrappers to get the parts you need!

Good things: still look pretty modern (compare to a Vectra!), dead cheep to buy, run and maintain (like most Vauxhalls!), pretty quick, reliable, solid body work, mint brakes with ABS, very comfy interior inc sports seats, sunroof, central locking, elecy windows/mirrors, power steering (good or bad? your preference), easy to mod....loads of styling/tuning options

Bad things: loads have high mileage, ex taxis, ex reps cars. Many have been family owned so can suffer from "Child Abuse!", um....can't think of any more bad things really!

Hard luck hearn.....there's loads of 'em about though,so you should be able to find another one in no time ;)

Ged....talking about parking, you should try parking my 'tina, especially reverse parking.....the rear window is very shallow 'cos of how low the roof-line is, and the rear pillars or very thick. It's like looking through a letter box...plus it feels massive! At least the Cavs got nice big windows which make things easier.
