That was for nothing mate and it looks mint, is it an SX? You'd really wanna loose the red stripes and the Bump strips though. Looks beautiful.

ANDYRACER
27-08-05, 11:53 PM
Em na it's a fun. Im just a bit puzzled coz it has a 1.2i badge and it is a K reg and it is a carb :?: I thought all 1.2 K regs were injection? And the bump strips and badges will be stayin, just lowered, exhaust, wheels and a decent engine

Dod
28-08-05, 12:17 AM
You gotta loose the 12 I badges at least mate.

ANDYRACER
28-08-05, 12:19 AM
Na the 1.2i badge is the best bit. Proper sleeper. and i espically like the pin strips

Are you sure its not single point injection. Very easy to get a carb and SPI mixed up on an old vaux.

You sure its carb?

Some J-reg 1.2s were carb.
But most if not all K-reg are SPI.

Maybe yours got one of the last carb engines bunged in.

Well it has a stupid big dustbin lid filter? And has 2 nuts to hold it on? Any help?

Lee
28-08-05, 12:24 AM
yep, thats SPI, Carbs have 3 nuts

Yeah, the spi have the dustbin lid filters

The only real way to identify them is the engine code, squared off cambelt cover top, and it dont have the fuel pump bolted to the cam housing.

They are also excruciatingly slow, my first car was a 1.2 SPI corsa.

It was slower than an athritic Ant with some heavy shopping!

ANDYRACER
28-08-05, 12:30 AM
LMAO my dad might notice how slow it is, the last car he drove back for me was my nova gsi abit of a difference there. Ahh well im going to rev the tits off it and see how long it takes to blow up

Lee
28-08-05, 12:36 AM
quite a while because they have a mechanical rev limiter. Just drain all the oil out and wait for the camshaft to snap in half.

That happened to mine on the second day of ownership from a blocked oil way, and the oil pressure sensor wasnt working, hense no oil light.

ANDYRACER
28-08-05, 12:38 AM
Okey sod it will jsut rev it and have some fun with it  Then go throw the engine in the woods.

Adam
28-08-05, 12:41 AM
Aye, i think the rev limiter is quite low, around 6000ish rpm.

TBH, i dont think the 1200i is that bad, yeah its low power, but its alrate.

ANDYRACER
28-08-05, 12:42 AM
Well my dad is going to take me out for a few lessons before i do out to it, so will see how bad it is then. But defo want to put a 1.4 in it coz i want to learn to do a engine conversion.

Adam
28-08-05, 12:57 AM
Dont be blowing the engine up, give it me  , i fancy slightly modding a 1.2 and sticking with that for a while.
As a 1.4 will push my insurance up by around ?110, and i can;t afford that at the minute.

ANDYRACER
28-08-05, 12:58 AM
Well when i pull the 1.2 out u can have it for free if u really want it. I just dont have any room left to store the bugger.

Put it in reverse at 50 that will see it off

i tried to blow a 1.2i up a while ago, i drained all the coolant out of it then ran it for about an hour while rev the hell out of it. It made lots of smoke but didnt blow up at all.

you don't drive yet surely iff its your first car you would want a smaller engine to start off with, that way you won't get stupid insurance prices.

well you will but it will be lower than a 1.4

ANDYRACER
28-08-05, 04:52 PM
Ive looked at insurance quotes for about 2 months now and it will only cost me about 100 quid more for the 1.4 to go on.

probert_nova
28-08-05, 05:02 PM
i thought you'd get charged alot more coz it was a conversion?
especially at 17 anyway?

ANDYRACER
28-08-05, 05:04 PM
It depends what company u are with i beleive. Plus i can get an engineers report on the conversion which always helps. But im not to sure so im sure someone will shed some light.

most insurers despise the transplanted motor route.

I had someplaces that would rather insure me on a R33 GTS-T Skyline than a 1.6 engined nova as the car was originally 1.2

Yep, thats usually the case.
Even if swapping the engine for an engine the same CC.
Most places i have rung didn't want to know when i told them i wanted change my 1200 engine for a 1400.
But they would happily insure me on a 1.4 nova for around ?100 more than i pay now, but only if it was a 1.4 from the factory.
They dont like engine conversions.

All the Vauxhall OHC engines are real tough ones. Had an SRi Cav Flat out limiting in 5th gear and lifted her off a hump backed bridge and blew 2 holes in the bottom end, still took about 2 miles to sieze believe ot or not.
Dont blow the engine, sell it or give it away, whats the point in pointless destruction?

ANDYRACER
28-08-05, 07:32 PM
Coz pointless destruction is fun  But seriously if i do take it out anyone can have it for free just come take it away.

Mike.
28-08-05, 07:37 PM
imo i think you should consentrate on the styling andy

8) It would be alrate to mod slightly and put in place of mine until my insurance goes down a bit for a 1600 or something.
Just dont go above 2K rpm in it, i want it in prime condition 8)

ANDYRACER
28-08-05, 07:42 PM
Na im priity happy with what it looks like. Just going to debadge it, lower it and put my cav rims on once i have repsrayed them in gloss black. Plus got a few body repairs to do some lil (unt has keyed the drivers door  And maybe a blue n grey sr interior and ill be happy.

the 1200's refuse to die. i ran one for 2 years with no service and she still wouldnt die lol.

im not rating the life span of the current 1.2 for very long though

ANDYRACER
28-08-05, 09:33 PM
Neither am i throwing that sort of money at a 1.2

Riggy
28-08-05, 09:53 PM
lol 1.2's dont die

i blew my block up on the motorway and the fucker would still start and drive even with a big hole in the block

ANDYRACER
28-08-05, 09:54 PM
Ahh Riggy uve got a 1.2 car converted to a 1.4 what was the insurance like?
cheers Andy

Riggy
28-08-05, 09:56 PM
to tell the truth mate i didnt really notice as i never got a quote on a std 1.4

but ive had quotes for a 1.6 gsi corsa cheaper then what im paying now

but ive also had quote for 100 more for my valver

Mike.
28-08-05, 09:57 PM
i love my 1.2 it will soon have twin 40's

Quick update, me and Ste had a mincing day on the nova, and fitted the engine out of my now very fucked gsi.

One very dead gsi, now engineless:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v733/ANDYRACER/novapics202.jpg

Then we made a start on the 1.2 engine (well i did coz Ste was late  )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v733/ANDYRACER/novapics203.jpg

Then yet again another engineless nova, makes an improvement over that underpowered 1.2
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v733/ANDYRACER/novapics204.jpg

Then the 1.6 just in the bay, not even on the mounts in this pic.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v733/ANDYRACER/novapics205.jpg

Then the 1.6 on the mounts and most wires conencted, had to stop due to me having to go to work
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v733/ANDYRACER/novapics206.jpg

Huge thanks to Ste for giving me a hand, his fee was only brews and bacon butties  will hopefully have it running by next week with a bit of luck. 8)

I couldn't even get a quote for a 1600 when i was 18, and had drove for a year.
Personally i would of stuck with the 1200 tbh Andy, they aint that bad when they are modded slightly.
Im sticking with my 1200 for a while.
