View Full Version : Help!!!!
I am driving a 1.4SR with a digi dash fitted.
Suddenly tonight for no reason the bat gauge is only registering 12 volts while driving, when I slow down, indicate, brake, turn out anything that needs power, the bat light starts flashing.
The earths all seem secure and all fuses are fine! :?
Does anyone have any idea what may be up with it.
I have driven 15 miles with this happening and the battery seems ok. It registers 12 volts but it wont even turn the starter. I will check the battery in the morning (dont have a multimeter at present)
Cheers for any help guys

Fanbelt slipping?
Alternator may be packing in.
With a good working alternator, you should get about 14.4v when the engine is running.
The fan belt is slipping.
I checked the battery about two hours after I came in and ir read 11.97/8 as if it is slowly charging back up and I got it running off the key no probs.
How can I test if my alternator is gubbed??
Sorry meant fan belt is NOT slipping! :o

IIRC
Put a multimeter across the batt terminals with the engine running, and see what voltage you get.
It should be at least 14V.
If its 12ish V then the alternator is probably gone.
I am getting 12.63 volts from the battery terminals when she is running.
Do you reckon it is the alternator then?
Could be one of three things if youve checked all the connections.
Battery is shagged and not holding its charge.
Alternater belt is slipping or snapped
Alternator is shagged

right, I have had the battery checked and it is fine.
Changed the alternator for a second hand unit that was working fine when I took it off my 1.4sr about 18 months ago and I changed the battery earth strap, but still not fixed the problem :? :?
Any help would be appreciated before I take her to an auto spark
