Fire Wall Removal, advantages and disadvantages please????

After looking through some of the questions posted here i'd like to know the pro's and con's of removing your firewall please?
yes it looks better, makes it easier to weld up the battery tray once its rotted through!! yes its easier to clean the engine bay, but why do it? i want to know!!
also if i am going to use my SR as an everyday runner and use my wipers and heater, would it be worth doing?
please tell me the pros and cons??

i only removed mine to aid airflow under bonnet for my twin carbs rather than have a scoop on the bonnet

if you keep your heater in then you will get the fumes from the engine coming through the vents. if you remove the heater you can plate over the hole
