Nova GTE and Escort RS Turbo vs Mi 16

Last night me and my mate went out for a drive as you do and came across a group of 4 cars driving through town thinkin they were the dogs bollocks. We decided to give chase and hoped that they would welcome us to their 'crew', 3 of the cars (2 clios and 1 astra) decided to pull over and let us past, i guess they didnt like us too much ! however the 4th car, a pug Mi 16 joined onto the back of us and followed, so we swiftly made for the nearest dual carrigeway. At the time we only knew it was a Mi 16 and not the spec of the engine so i was a bit worried he might give us a good thrashing !
Upon coming onto the dual carrigeway you have to go around a big roundabout he pulled out in front and me and my mate quickly followed, seeing as i was in the nova and they handle great i took the inside lane and screeched around behind the pug. We all came onto the straight and gave it all we got !
The pug in front, GTE then RS Turbo. Much to my suprise the pug didnt pull away from us at all, we kept a sensible distance behind him and was probably gaining on him very slightly (est 115mph). It all ended by the Pug turning off and going a different way down the slip road to a non racing area.
We see the car later and saw it said 1.9 on the side ! Is this true ? Shouldnt he have been much faster and pulled away the whole time ?

Well it either was not a mi16 or a 1.9,if it was then you would of been way of the pace im sorry to say,as for the escort RS the driver must be a total gimp :lol:

to be fair the mi-16s arent as fast as everyone makes out, the ones ive seen down pod were getting high 15s and one on throttle bodies and making 230bhp only managed a mid 14, the same goes for rs tubos. I used to dust them in 1400 lmao.

I think a GTE could keep with a 1.9, but a mi16 would have had you i think. As for the RS turbos i have the same opinion of them as Phill, eg not very fast at all. And they all have silly made up horse power figures. My old seirra kept with a supposed 170bhp rsturbo up a slip road. A real 170bhp rsturbo would eat the seirra alive, granted we were going up hill so the torque of the seirra would help.

Well I think you are a tit for racing on the roads :lol: (awaits Jim for back-up) , and on the road I think a 1.6 205 gti would wipe the floor with a GTE just because of how they accelerate when driven hard, they are only geared for around 110mph though, but get there very fast, the 1.9 is similar but has a higher topend

im pretty sure a well maintained 1.9 smokes a nov gte, straight and handling. 1.6; be closer, not sure. RS's can have trouble with traction (if running well, but most of the time don't ) so that cud be why that was nipped.

I know rsturbos arent that fast my bros sr used to keep up with his mates rsturbo. But i think that rst had seen better days :lol: And the 1.6 205s arent that bad in a straight line it used to just have the edge on my mates corsa sri. Havent a clue about 205 1.9s havent got any mates with one to race :lol:

i saw a STDish 205 mi16 at pod the other week (stripped and i think it had a cage) and it wasnt running that amazing a 1/4 time.... but fun isnt in a straight line lol.

Seconded! If you want to find out how quick a car is, head down to Santa Pod. Going out looking for people to race is dangerous. Maybe you'll realise this in a few months when you wrap your car around a tree, I just hope you don't injur anyone else in the process :roll:

As for the Mi16's they are pretty quick and I know of a standard Mi16 running 15 dead up the 1/4. Still not as quick as a standard valver though, which I guess says that the red top valver in a Nova is more powerful than a standard Mi16 engine :|

mi16 are 150bhp standard...

1.9 16v...only serious unreliable...mate blew up 2 in 2 weeks...got himself a 2.0ltr 8v turbo....which he blew in 4 days...

and he weren't even racing :S

same as most pug engines, they're quite well tuned from the factory, so you won't get as good gains from simple mods as you would on an equivalent vaux engine for example.

I had a 1.9 205 on a 1.6 box....that thing was probaly near on as quick as my XE nova to about 50, off the mark it was silly quick, alway got power down well....

All 205's just seem to get really gutless over 60, wheres as XE's nova's best power comes in 40-100 sorta speed

A mate of mine had a Mi16 and it was nowhere near as quick as we thought it would be, also a lad i used to work with had a 1.9 205 gti, my old c-reg 1.8 astra gte put them both to shame :D

i had a blat along the motorway from 30ish to around 90 against a 1.9 gti in my 1600 16v nova last year and he was certainly pulling away although not very quickly

i'd imagine a mi-16 would be quicker tho, and i'd imagine both would spank a gte

when i had me old sr with get lump in i tried racing a 1.6 gti and it wasnt going anywhere from my arse, then i smashed into someone and wrote it off, ( hope your reading all this topic starter person..)

as for the mi16 they are 160 bhp as std. the mi imo would certainly see off the rst, ( as long as it wasnt stupid spec), same with the gte.

once ive got the mi in my 205 i'll be only happy to oblidge to a tester down the strip at pod.... :lol:

As for non leagal street racing etc it's just stupid,yeah it's all fine till someone kills some one or a bistander or them self,go to track days its more fun.

well m8 i like novas when there in one peice.

and whats wrong with racin on the strip its leagal and you can get some proper times and better matches from better drivers and not your local chavs in there RS TURBO.....

But i dont go lookin for races i only have the occasional blast, its not like i spend my entire days in the car racin round the streets like a twat. I do the speed limit and drive sensible and hate it when little twats drive up my arse and try to race me. You're just makin it sound like i race on the streets and thats it.

The closer someone gets to my rear bumper the slower I drive - its not to piss them off (well not completely lol) but I'm hoping that they'll overtake me and bog off, or if the worst happened and they *did* hit me, then due to the lower speed less damage would be caused. I've found that if you speed up they don't drop back much.

...Unless you floor it :lol: although then they just try to play catch up and it turns into a "race" :roll:

And yes... I'm not the best driver, I can't say I haven't played with people on the road... but recently I've witnessed some horrendous driving, and going on the M5 every weekend has opened my eyes a bit. Added to the fact I want to look after my car, and I now drive quite reservedly.

lol i used to go for a drive just in the hope of finding some cock like that. If someone pisses me off on the road i will go out of my way in order to make them look a cock, normally in front of their misses who he was trying to impress by overtaking a nova in the first place. And yes it makes me feel so cool. Ive also forced people into barriers before because they were driving like a cock. Since ive had the 1.2 though i havent gone about 60, mainly because the car wont anyway lmao
