Hi, Im just wiring up my sub, I've got a 4 channel amp and I know it can be bridged cos its got bridged goin from a negative symbol to a positive one.

The layout of the speaker outputs are: - + - +

then underneath are another set of 4 outputs directly below those.

Any help is much appreciated

Tom

Do you mean physically how do you bridge it?

yes I want all 4 channels to run 1 sub

Depends on the amp, but usually you connect the Ch1 + to the + on the sub, and Ch4 - on the amp to the - on the sub. Best to check in the manual as some 4Ch amps won't bridge to mono, and some use different terminals.

If you don't have the manual, stick up what amp it is and someone might have it...

Ive got the choice of 2 amps, one is a kenwood kac 849 600w max and the other is a magnat xcite 560 which is supposedly 680w max. Bit pissed off now cos I thought the Magnat was only 560w so I installed the kenwood instead

Both are 4 channel amps, and after a bit of reading on the web I don't think I can bridge either of them to create a 1 channel output.

My sub is an Audiobahn aw1000Q which is 600w RMS would it be ok running the sub with 170w RMS (2 channels bridged on the magnat amp) or 150w RMS (2 channels bridged on the kenwood amp) or will it knacker the sub by underpowering it?

Would it ok leaving the other 2 channels left over or would they need wiring to my comps for the amp to work?

why use all 4 channels? the amp i had wasn't over powerful but it was sure enough to make the car jump if it needed to,

why not use the other two channels to run the speakers off of?

or alternatively i thought most 4 channel amps bridged to become a 2 channel amp so why not run two subs?

you cant bridge all 4 channels

only thing you can do is if you got a DVC sub is used 2 bridged channels to one coil, but this brings another load of problems like gain matching

under powering your sub is fine you wont get the best out of it though, what most people do is turn the gains right up as there not getting the output out of the sub they want when underpowering so sending a clipped signal and killing the coils, this is where the underpowering a sub kills it myth comes from

you need to check you sub has a single 4ohm coil as your amps wont do 2ohm bridged

your best bet is to buy a new amp
