fitting bonnet struts

has anyone fitted them on a nova?? it might just be me being stupid but i can't get the ball joint things to line up at the correct angle, i know they adjust but its not the length thats wrong.

i have removed the 3rd wing bolt down from the windscreen and tried both bolts in the hinge.

anyone know how they go on, or even better have a pic of how they fit?
