i just baught a vernier pulley 8) witch uses a square toothed belt . just got a sri and found the timing belt to have the round teeth on it.the timing belt ls longer due to it having a petentioner. is it posible to remove the petentioner and run a old style belt and crank pulley?

id deffo recomend binning the auto tensioner!

but as for changing to square tooth setup, you'd need to locate a square toothed waterpump otherwise the belt will get chewed in seconds!!!

the 1.2 (non spi) engine has the shorter belt to suit a non-tensionerd setup. and then take your std round tooth pulley to an engineering shop and ask for a kidney slot to be cut into where the peg goes..... shouldnt cost more than ?20
