Some say its nothing essential but others say leave it on. If a stone got cought in the belt, SNAP and good bye engine, although it does look shit and i've had mine off while taring up and down loose gravel roads, probably not a good idea but i've had no trouble so far.

did you get a company to clean the engine for you or did you do it yourself?

if you did it yourself what did you use?

cheers!

running without the belt covers simply stupid imo

OllyTB wrecked his astras 2.0 16v at donnington from an off into gravel trap simply because he was running with no timing belt cover (and incedentally he'd have killed it with the timing cover on too as he was running no airfilters and the trumpets were full of stones iirc)

moral of the story - the covers fitted for a reason, as is the air filter, so make sure it stays where it should be

we cleaned dans bay up with an oxy ace torch and steel wire brush. then welded and cleaned up again.....

as for running without a belt, as far as i see unless you drop a ton of gravel into teh bay while runnign the engine there wont be a problem as most debris shouldnt get up into the bay from underneath and if it does the speed of the belt should defelct stones and shizzle.

as for no air filters i know a guy who tarmac rallied for a year with no filters on the TB's and it still had its hone marks in the bores come annual rebuild time ;) Swings and roundabouts but ill not be running filters.

I would just clean up the belt cover mate. I think it looks better IMO.
