I will soon be in the market for some new rubber and have been doing some poking around to see what tyres are available. I have built up a list of tyres with some prices and just wondered if anyone has used one or more of these tyres on the track and what there views where.

I currently run Uniroyal Rainsport 1 only because they came with the wheels. To be fair to them they have taken some bashing!

All the tyres prices are for 195/45R16 and include VAT but they are just a guide to see how they compare to each other really.

Toyo T1-S ?54.00 - http://adaptivestrategies.com/t1s.jpg
UniRoyal Rainsport 1 ?46.88 - http://www.reifen24.ws/images/uni/U_S_Rainsport1_gross.jpg
Pirelli P Zero Nero ?57.81 - http://www.genial-guenstig-shop.de/shop/Sommerreifen/Details/Pirelli_P_ZeroNero.gif
Continental ContiSport 2 ?56.26 - http://images1.reviewcentre.com/sent-in/item8429.jpg
Yokohama A539 ?44.59 - http://www.autowheels.ru/images/series/details/A539.jpg
Falken ZE502 ?46.07 - http://www.howellautomotive.com/Howell/Store/catalog/catalog/images/ZE502.jpg
Federal SS595 ?39.00 - http://image.www.rakuten.co.jp/geki-car/img1046884474.jpeg
Goodyear Eagle F1 ?88.28 - http://www.genial-guenstig-shop.de/shop/Sommerreifen/Details/Goodyear%20eAGLE%20f1%20GS-D2.jpg

The price is a factor as well as how durable the tyres are as well. At the mo the top three for me are the Toyo, Yokohama and the Federal. All pending further investigation. If money was no object I would probably go straight for the Goodyear but at twice the price of the Yokohama tyre its a tad steep.

Any extra info you guys can give would be good. But proper info please not pub talk or hearsay (not the band) :)

I thought a quick showing of the tread patterns would also be a good idea. *NOTE I may have some wrong.

i have run the yoko a539 tyres now for 3 months covering nearly 6k miles and are lasting very well (about half worn, and i thrash them everyday), superb in the dry, best ive ever had but abit touch and go in the wet. im sure people will agree.

had the p zeros on my speedlines on my corsa and they didnt last very long, and i would say they were about evan in the wet and dry, not as good as the yokos in the dry but better than the yokos in the wet.

another i have heard are quite good but never used are avons but im not sure what model?

hope this helps abit, jamie

Mate of mine with the GTi6 had some T1-S's on and they lasted about 5,000 miles of road use lol... admittedly he does drive hard, but I'd imagine on track they'd melt pretty quick. Grip level was good tho - he's currently on Yoko A539, and altho they're lasting longer and are a lower profile tyre, he says he trusts the grip of the T1-S more than the Yokos.

i should have let you have a go of mine at llandlow dar.

i am running on yoko's and so is chris.
but i also have dunlop p9000.

the yoko's as quoted are really grippy in the dry and also as said (imo) are a bit nervy in the wet.

the dunlops are really grippy and i even found them very good going in the dry at llandlow, but i can not comment on them in the wet as such yet.

hope this helps fella. you have my number if you wanna chat some more

falkerns suck lol. had a pair on the front of my 1.2 years and years ago. they were hard wearing but no grip in the wet etc.

F1's rock, i had the older compound on the back of the omega and they did just under 30K and that wasnt exactly kind driving lol.

Kuhmo are good budget tyres, and they arent cheap because they are crap! they are damn good on the road and track (as Dan can prove lol)

Me personally Dar, I would avoid the Toyo's at all costs if you are planning on taking it on track, they will only last about two laps and then overheat. I had a full set with my MO's brand new and have still got some on the back, just though! The compound is very very soft so it does overheat so quick, the picture that you have put up is the T1-R not the T1-S, the 'S' has got thinner strips of tread, so it folds more.

The A539 is the best llround tyre I have found TBH, not too soft and nicely grippy, I had yoko's on front and toyo's on the rear at Llandow and the difference between how the tyres coped with the heat was amazing.

Eagle F1's are also a very good tyre, I have used these on track in a 106 rallye, and they were fine, also did a track day on them this weekend in the wet and they still had an incredible amount of grip.

You get what you pay for, but personally I would go with the A539's, until somebody shows be a better tyre for a resonable amount of pennies

Thanks for all the replys so far. Its building up quite a nice picture of what tyres are out there and how they perform against each other. At the moment the Yoko is coming out on top for performace per ?.

Im going to do some research on the net today to see what the world in general feel about these tyres as well.

Toyos over Yoko's ive had both, and toyo's grip so much better!

Dont buy the federals ever :o
i put a set on my supra just for the standard wheels, the car is a twin turbo where the turbo's come in seperatly, the first one isnt really a massive hit, but with the federals on it sent the back end of the car all over, no chance of using a turbo with them fitted
ive got toyo t1r's on the nova at the minute and they seem to grip really well in the wet and dry
yoko's are a good tyre ive used them in the past havent got them on the nova yet, but ive found my toyo's wearing down very very quickly
goodyear eagle are still the best tyre ive used for grip, but they also wear down quick :(

Definetly go for the Yoko's mate
Why not get a price on the Yoko AVS. Supposed to be their top of range tyre. Got em on mine, seem pretty good but dont really use car enough to judge whot wear rate would be like.

try your local independant garage, they might be able to get you agood price on tyres... i know my place came back with a MOR price for the yoko A048's i asked for (he thought he wasnt competative as they were double the normal price for 14's lol)

:o i dont rate the A539s at all , imo they are horrible in the wet (dont know if me havin a fucked coilover could be helping this prob)

i have the A539s on my front since my uniroyal rainsport 1s were taken off although i still have them on the rear - and i find these a much better tyre all round ( especially as the name sugests - in the wet , they are awsome) and they do last very well

although my A539s are lastin well aswell i will not be buying them again

dar, will you be using these tyres on track? if you are avoid F1's because they are too soft, and from what i have seen of the toyo t1-s the same applies to the. althouh i have no experiance of them the yoko a539 seems to be a good tyre for taking lods of track abuse, for a good indication it's what alot of the cater-field type things use.

if you want them just for the road(or as wets) i would say go for the F1's as they are awsome on the road in any conditions

The tyres will be going on my Nova which is just a trackday car. So rarely run in the wet and always driven quite hard.

From what every one has said here the Yokos have come out on top for dry performance and durability per ?. This has been extremely helpful!

Thanks all :D

I bought my Toyo T1-S from this site, very good tyres and were ?50 per corner. But they sent them to the worng address and it took over a week to get them to the correct address!!

The Toyos are very sticky, much better than my Falcons I had before.

Chris,

His picture is of the T1-s. The T1-R is pictured below

http://www.donkervoort.info/Pics/tire_f.jpg T1-R

Ive personally had no hassle with the Toyo 330 tyres on my 106, and neither does my pal expeirence any real problems with the T1-R set up on his tweaked R33 GTS-T

I have driven with the A539 as well, and whilst good and hard(ish) wearing in the dry - they are evil in the wet with a tendancy to slide like a slippery thing covered in oil..

have to say for hard wearing stuff the A539 did well at llandow. compared to the boys on toyos the 539's leekd new lol.

if its track tyre purely then go for A032's OR A048's mediumish on the front and soft on the back ;)

I would like the choice of the other Yoko's but they don't do them in the size I want which is 195/45R16 - Im thinking of making the arches slightly wider later on so I have a wider choice of tyres. I know some people have managed to fit 205's under the Nova arches but not mine. My car seems to be very tight. The 195's only just fit.

Stuart

A048 comes in 195/50/16..... at ?115+vat from one place lol

Ruddy ell I didn't think that they where that pricey. I do have a set of slicks that would be about a 50 profile (I think). I may put them on if I don't sell them in the mean time to see how the car sits.

After going in Benji's car with the slicks on I think it would be fun to run them at some point.

dar, if you get some 15's i have a brand new set of yoko A048's for sale. and a set of wheels to put them on if you are strugling to find cheap 15's

i also have a set of compomotive mo's already wearing slicks that i might part with for the right price

Dar

Thanks Benji - I can get hold of 15" Speedlines (I think) with slicks on if I could get off of my ass and get around there.

The A539's sound perfect for my purposes. I've just had all my tyres turned around on the rims so I can wear out the edges on the other sides now. Then I will get the Yoko's.

Good choice Dar with the Yokohamas, i run the A539 195/45x16 on mine and they did me just perfect at the Nurburgring at the start of the year. And they lasted considerably well! I'm having to change them before my next pilgrimage over there next month but for 13laps of that track, they did very well!
As a couple of people have already said, they are pretty poor in the wet (ask the girlfriend as i got very out of shape on a wet lap at The Ring!!) Oops, sorry babes!
But dry time, amazing tyre! Due to your car being rather light aswell, they wont wear that much at all!
Hope that helps too
