One of tha lads at work has a 94 Astra and is having a little bit of trouble, in that the brakes keep failing on him!!!

Its something that comes and goes apparently and he's a slow driver so its not excessive use or heavy braking either

He's had the Master cylander changed for a brand new item and had the brakes bled twice, but still it persists.

Anyone any notion what it is or how to sort it?

leaking servo. the brakes will work, but feel uber heavy.

Aye, i spotted the paint lifting off the master cylander alright and told the twat to say to the mechanic, but being a mechanic you think he'd spot it.

So, new servo then? Thats the Cast Alu bit that the brake pipes screw into isn't it?

the brake pipes screw into the master cylinder ;)

the servo is the big black thing that the cylinder bolts to

I would check the rear wheel cyliners. As stu has said, the servo failing wont stop the brakes from working

what does the pedal do when they "fail"

It goes straight to the floor and the car doesn't slow any. Then after a while, it comes back.

I HAD THE EXACT PROBLEM ON THE A1 TRAVELING VERY FAST AND I SHIT MY PANTS COS I HAD NO BRAKES

Problem was......

Handbrake partially sticking on perminantly, caused brake fluid to heat up and boil, means the servo couldnt use it

= your braking like fred flinstone,

SCARY SHIT I TELL YA
