FHM magazine invited me to santa pod yesterday to take part in a feature called 'my car can beat a ferrari'.
Unfortunately my car didn't quite beat the ferrari 355, which posted a best time of 13.6 compared with my best of the day 13.8.
i tried everything i could to shave the couple of tenths off but with no joy, i think i've reached the peak for the current spec.
The feature will be in the november issue (which is out in september  ) vids and interviews should be on fhm.com soon.
ps. other cars that were there were: 550 bhp grasshopper skyline, 450 bhp 20v turbo golf, hayabusa turbo nos go-kart, mr2 engined mini, 180bhp saxo, 210 bhp mi16 engined 205, turbo nos s40 volvo, couple of drag cars, motorbike engined bond bug (reliant robin type thing), subaru impreza

 Fancy not beating a pissy Ferrari 355, you have disgraced the realms of Novaload and made us all laughing stocks. Stu, Dan, Chris, if any of you read this I nominate Him for eviction.......................

P.s.
Was the bug a rally car? There is one going about but haven't seen it for ages....

Only joking mate, your 1/4 mile times are really good and prove what can be done with a sensible budget and a small blocked nova. :+:
That Bug was a monster then :o :o

What were the results then...?
did any others beat the ferrari's? i'm assuming the skyline walked it???
Not bad though, a "scummy 1.6 nova" posting a near supercar time....... ;)
i still think you could make a few tenths up with a F13 Cr, 4.18 fd and WR 5th ;)

i think ur right stuart, i'm gonna play around with the 'box this winter, and money permiting change the cams, go to solid lifters get it remapped, fibreglass bonnet and boot, some decent suspension and get some yoko a032 or a048's.
although track performance is more important to me than 1/4 mile times. so suspension and tyres are the next on the shopping list.
i was amazed how sticky the track is at santa pod considering the amount of wheelspin you get. the guy said normally they put more glue on than they did yesterday, but it was still sticky enough to pull your trainers off your feet as you walked across it. after parking on it for the photo shoot the car felt like the handbrake was on when i went to pull away cos the tyres had stuck that much!

do you regularly rev to 7400rpm? And your hydraulice lifters handle it ok?
Are the 16v lifters the same as 8v? I'm guessing probably not.
p.s. well done mate. Did you beat the Saxo's time?

i regularly rev to 8000rpm :o and the lifters just about cope, it is gettin more and more tappetty :? i'm gonna change to solids this winter.
the saxo had a vts engine built by longmann (big peugeot / citroen tuner) and was runnin throttle bodies, stripped out and posted a best of 14.6 i believe. so yeah beat him :)
top out? top speed is approx 150mph, top revs 8000rpm, terminal speed on the 1/4 mile is about 100mph.

Awesome Oli, you did really well!
Defo get some solid lifters, They sound a lil tappety on idle but should put up with loads more punishment! I try not to rev mine past 7.5k much, just to save the bottom end.

Thats a good time mate, the fella with the saxo is one of my mates Dan.
He has only just got the engine and that was only his second time at the pod so he is still getting used to it, he ran a 14.5 before he put his cage in.

I wish the golf was that fast mate, its still standard, only been up the pod once and manage a 15.9 which i didn't think was too bad.
