mine had 4x4 ride height, not 4wd :P

No idea if a 4wd Nova has ever been made to be honest

You'd have to be quite the Nova fanatic to even consider the idea. The amount of time and money it would cost to get reasonable performance and handling from it would far outweigh any positive benefits. For a proper job of it you would be looking at at least 10k, probably more, and considering you could pick up an old Subaru or even a Skyline (yeah, they're around for that money, trust me) for that money, it does seem a little pointless. And if you were trying to come up with the *ultimate* small car with a large engine, try checking out some of the Z Cars Mini conversions. Twin 1300 Hayabusa engines driving the rear wheels. Now that's what I call Ultimate.

As far as the ultimate Nova goes, I don't think you can get much better than a 16008v with some decent tuning and a limited slip diff.

Theres a quote for my footer if I ever saw one :)

I'll slip you that tenner later Chris ;)

There is a Nova with two Turbo engines powering the front wheels and Rear Wheels. It really is a beast of a car, holding the quickest 0-60 time at Silverstone for a road car with a time of 2.83 seconds (I thinks that's correct).

Nowt wrong with a Celica! Pick an ST185 up for about ?3k

I have been quoted ?5k for the fabrication of everything including having a proper cage fitted and transmission tunnel fabricated and fitted.

On top of that i would throw my F28 in the bin and fit another setup along with using a proper rear diff setup.

If i remember correctly about 10 years ago there was a company called HACKMANN that did a nova 4x4 but i think it was just with a 2ltr non turbo engine, trying to dig out info about it.They used to advertise back then in the motoring news.

MK 3 and 4 Escorts and now even MK5's are converted to RWD and 4WD over here all the time for Rallying. Was Quoted e1000 for a rough Job, but at that it was my XR4x4 and my RST Mated giving me a 2.8 4wd Escort. I know myself it wouldn't be just the neatest of Jobs but it was guarenteed to Pass the NCT and to be Extremely Functional. The Nova'd be no differenet. AutoCross Novas are all 4wd, and extremely competitave as well.

My mate is building one...

Its a LET with a F28, with a modded transfer box...

He is a fabricator by trade and the cally running gear looks truly amazing in the nova...

Rumour has it Lotus converted 5 gsi's to 2.0 16v and painted them racing green? anyone know if its true?

Also when the nova was first released in 1983 they built a few 1300 4x4 nova's?

Ferg by any chance?? :D

It's going to be fcuking awsome when he finally finnishes it. He's away for the next 5 months though!

BTW It might not be a LET? ;)

you could use the MG streetcar 4x4 system as there a simialir size motor.

Cally running gear would be the best, chop down the propshaft to a suitable lenght, modd the transfer box and lock the diff to split power 50/50. Take off would be amazing fun!

I'd love to build one. might try an get a wrie off cally 4x4 and a 1.2 merit and mate them together to see what happens?

Im a qaulified welder/ steel fabricator (as well as watch maker, not bad for a 20yo!) so its just the time really?

hhhm?

Depends how it's been written off, gotta be careful of damage to the drivetrain

I'd guess a 1.2 would need a fair amount of strengthening - would it be better to start with a GTE/GSi shell? Or will the stronger shell be only a negligible advantage once its been welded up?

Chances are, that if you're gonna stick a 2.0 16v engine in a Nova with a full 4x4 set up, you Will ned to strengthen it if its a Merit or a GSi anyway!!

Give it a shot. When i get ma House and Garage finished i'm gonna give it a shot.

id love to try it. just as a tat about project like, get eveythink as cheap as i can.

if it works, then think about fabricating nova 4x4 transmission tunnels an selling em?

would be ace to drive though!

Yes between a small amount of work by me and alot by my best mate ferg its slowly coming together. We are using:

a 1.2 litre nova spin
an LET
f28
custom made TX box (just removed the clutches made it permanent 4x4)
astra MK3 GSI power sterring rack, and modded escort diesel van/nova column (ours is straight :P)
using full calibra back end.
uses calibra front frame, and struts with coilovers all round (the backs he nicked from the set at pinewood where works lol)

all arches are custom made from steel, has no boot floor or inner rear arches, all box frame, pretty much same at front. Anythiung you can't buy he makes. You need to make absolutley NO changes to the tunnel other than at the front to clear the TX box top.

he made the prop and was half way through making the tank before he left (he in tunisia working on sequel to kingdom of heaven)

Hes completely computer illiterate so wouldn't know what novaload etc means, but when its finished we will be at a number of shows in it. He want it like a nova sport (looks wise) and has vectra super T rims on it.

when it finished it will be an animal hopefully, and weight we be kept down wear possible,

Look out for it next year we hope!

Rich

Because the last ever bare brand new nova shell was used in the 90's to make a nova 2ltr then converted to a 2ltr turbo. People have spent a long time searching for new nova shells and believe me there are none left.

no offence intended, womble, but this site has been going for years, there are guys on here that have spent thousands rejuvanating tired nova's. If there were new shells available, i can name at least ten people on this site who would have bought one, myself included!
