you been receiving obsene calls in the middle of the night again?? :D
Well I'll stop if thats how you feel!
When you say tracing, do you mean finding out who is the owner of a particular phone number? I doubt you'd be able to do that, Data Protection Act and all...
Plus you dont actually have to register sim cards to a person. so i doubt u could trace it unless it was maybe a contract telephone but then again you have data protection etc.
Best thing is to either play along and wind them up or get a new sim, unless your contract in which case report it ;)
Either that or ring them up pretending to be some dodgy phone lottery scam telling them they've won ?10,000,000 and could you just take their name and address details....

no no,
I know the person and i also know he's upto something fishy,
and I have a hunch that this monday theres a chance he won't be where he says he is....
so the idea of tracking the phone which i can do (but i need permission first which he's not going to give) would give me the current location of his whereabouts, whenever the phone is on.
Someone must've used similar software on the net before...?
you'll need to tiangulate the position based on the 3 nearest cells in his area.
Its weird sh1te like that. When I worked for T-Mobile theyre tecky boys used to do "Grey traces" the CID and MI5 etc. They'd get some dodgy geezer (usually a suspected terrorist or high level murder/rape/kiddy fidler case) and then lock on to the mobile using the number. They can then trace the numbers being dialed (they cant really listen to the calls due to alrorithms that scramble signal).
The sim card when it dials into the network supplies 3 bits of info - the handset, the sim card ID and the phone number. If these dont match the network wont log them on.
Once logged in the tecky's can follow the phones location based on the cells it logs on to. Phones jump about every 30 secs or so to the next strongest cell location (thats why when youre near any telephones you hear the beep de beep beep noise) so they can only pinpoint him to the nearest cell - hence the tiangulation bit (I think). The police will then close in based on other intellegence etc...
You'd need access to some pretty serious tecky stuff and depending on the network an NPS tracker (think its called that - thats what T-Mobile called it) - also if you breach DPA its highly illegal and if caught you can go down. Its techno stalking effectively.

you should do a homer simpson and hang a tin of paint over the toe ball and stab it with a screwdriver then just follow the drips of paint to where he is!
