Right i was on the way to santa pod this morning and only got a few miles on the motor when the car filled with smoke, pulled and found one of the fuel lines had split but didnt seem to bad. So i called the recovery service to get me home so i could fix it ect... But about 20mins later it exploded and luckily me an the other passager werent near the car at the time it did as it went up quick.
To cut a long story short it its gutted the fire has melted an burnt everything, even the carbs have gearbox have melted which really pissed me off as i was hoping to get some bits off it. There is nothing that i can see that can be salvaged, the wheels engine have melted as well for a car with no interior it was very bad and the flames were going right acorss the motorway.
I shall have some pics later hopefully so you an see just how bad it was. But to be fair was was lucky to get away with it.
thats a shame mate, especially with you just repairing it after the crash
sorry to hear that phil :( , at least you had prior warning rather than it just going up whilst driving it

well as the car was a light a few old muscle car drove past, i'll take that as a sign. Only thing is ive got 3k off insurance hopefully and i have about 1.5k already an i dont think thats going to get me the car i want. Ah well i shall have to see what pops up.
It scared me really seeing it go up like that with nothing inside apart from two seats.

Totally gutted for you mate, u were going to give up when u crashed and was glad u stuck with it, but like u say must be a sign. Totally gutted loved that car looked so good for a 5 door. Buy yourself a shed and save up for the car you really want. And u are very lucky u and ur passenger werent in the car.
RIP Phil's 5 door nova.
jesus phil lucky you weren't in it!
see if you can find a complete shell of an old muscle car lacking an engine then find one for it!
mate just did this with an old camaro (sp) brought it all and on the road for less than 2k

well i dont have the time to build up another car at the moment, will need it running for work ect.. Ive left a message with a company that ships them over from america. Told them my budget and what i want an see if they can help me out as you can pick them up for about 1-2k dollars which is very cheap. But i think im going to get a shed of a nova just to run around in for time being.
as said earlier to you matey. totally gutted for you.
F**K me :o :o :o
Thats like my worse nightmare :(
What happened? Fuel leaking onto the exhaust or something?
That is well bad
At least you got out alive tho.
chevvy nova time eh phil ? lol
gutted, was a quality car - At least you get some insurance pay-out for it which is the silver lining on the cloud.

31-07-05, 04:18 PM
shouldn't they be claiming for the damage to the road from your insurers and not yourself directly?

jinx! fuckin bollox phill, just come back from mfn where ben and carl told me what had happened! i couldnt believe it, especially when on the way to mfn my car filled with smoke so i bailed out and ripped the dash to bits too see where it was coming from, found all my fuses melting and dripping out the fuse box, turned the car off and the smoke cleared, once it had cooled down i looked over it and found that my horn had come off and the positive feed on it was earthing on the chassis leg which melted the wiring and got things really hot, luckaly it was nuthing major and i sorted it ok but it shit me up! n now i can see what could of happened, unlucky mate but todays not the day for fires and novas!
thats bad that made, lucky you wasn't in it, when it blew up
S**T :o :(
Unbelievable how much damage it has caused, everything looks gutted and destroyed :(

Bloody hell Phil.. glad you were'nt still in there.
It's insane how hot fire can burn, cant belive the rear alloy is melted like that and the carbs too.

lmao @ their website:
Keep Checking here for Richard Hammond's comments on his new beast, and how the car has changed.
Didn't he sell it recently on ebay?!?
American ebay is jam packed with old muscle cars, and the ?-$ conversion rate is pretty good at the moment... I know a few companies that can ship them across too but have yet to get any quotes for that as I don't have the money available yet so haven't looked in too much detail at the process. And of course with ebay sales you don't get a guarantee of a decent car like you do with some of the specialist importers.
This (http://www.musclecarimports.fsnet.co.uk/) is a site I've seen before and looks pretty good.
Philsutton
01-08-05, 01:05 PM
yeah he wasnt amn enough for a charger lol, all i wanted was a rough price for importing one an registering it.
Thing is there are loads on ebay which i could get for about ?2000 but i have no idea what its going to cost to get it to me.

christ!
this page (http://www.musclecarimports.fsnet.co.uk/Consign_Car_details.htm) shows the process of how these people import cars, and this page (http://www.musclecarimports.fsnet.co.uk/holding/Import_cost_table.htm) shows a rough idea of costs to import... that BTI thing is some kind of tax exemption afaik
