hey guys due to rust my offside top springcup has decided to go thru so i now need to weld a new plate over the big gaping hole and re weld the cup on so please could one you guys tell me where cup should be ie how far from the rear of the car and how far from the front end of the axel i tihnk it is thanks

I hate to say it mate, but this is what killed my red Nova - the spring cup completely went through, and the garage said it would be better to re-shell or scrap it completely than spend the money on welding it all up :(

lol---^ too true..if I'd have done that, I wouldnt be drivin my pride and joy about now 12 months later..

You could get a bit of string and measure it from the t'other side, takes a bit of doing, but you can manage it with someone else...

What we did was cut that spring mount of, then cut the cup bit out and made our own "cup" and welded it on a flat bit of metal (in the same place - once drawin around it..bit complicated but looked like this:

Have you managed to sort it?

Just a bit of advice - check the rest of the chassis legs, arches, rear valance, sills and boot floor. Mine went there first, followed by the rest, so be warned, there may be other bits that need doing.
