Never noticed this until i jacked the car up remove the rear bumper yesterday.
The rear passenger wheel makes a tick noise, at the same point on each revolution of the wheel, and only once per turn.
It obviously gets more frequent the faster the wheel turns.
Its nothing do with the wheel itself as it does it if i turn the drum by hand.

Any ideas? :?
Something catching on the drum inside?
It makes the same sound as your moutain bike does when you stick a carton in your wheel spokes.

lol - could be something stuck or come free on the beake shoes/drum lining.

Take the drum off and have a look. If its at the same point all the way round it'll be something come loose...

Yea, it happends in the same point everytime.

Just went take the drum off, and am faced with split pins and hub nuts :o
what happened to the good old vaux way of cross head screw holding the drum on,lol.
Have to go look for a socket to fit it now

cross head screw is only on mk3 astras and newer as they have sealed bearings and botl on hub

nova and other older vauxhalls have taper bearings on the back

and if u do take it off then dont overtighten it

they just need nipped up and no more

Right, found the problem, it was the bloody split pin rubbing on the dust cap
Where the cap has been tapped on and bent slightly in the pin must have been catching it as the cap turned around.

But, before i realised it was that, i took the drum off, which fell in pieces

I have got the taper bearing back in the only way it looks to go, as its a taper, and i have the drum back on, it seems to spin nice and freely, so i think all is OK.
But how tight should the bearing hub nut be?
A quick look in haynes says that you should be able move the thrust washer slightly with a screwdriver, i have tightened it just past finger tight and the washer dont move.
There is no play in the wheel now, you can't pull/push it.

But a quick go on the other side and i can pull/push that wheel slightly,
so have i done it up to tight as there is no play in the one i have tightened?

sounds like the other side needs adjusting aswell, if you grab the tyre top and bottom(with the handbrake off and the wheel in the air), there shouldn't be any play when you rock it.

Ok mate.
There is no play in the side i did.
But there is abit of play in the side i haven't touched, when rocking the wheel at 12/6 position.

there should be no play

i normally goto finger tight then stick my 3/8's ratchet on and tap it lightly a few times and see if the washer moves

if it does i tap some more

if it doesnt i leave it at that

Yeah thats kind of what i have done.
I did it finger tight, and then about 1/4 turn more.
There is no play in that one now.

But there is in the untouched side :?
