I've just started my car for the first time in a week in a bit, It started without a real problem but it started to smell of petrol, Then i turned it off and about an hour later it was still smelling of petrol, Any ideas what this is? it a 1.4 SR btw

Cheers for your help!!!!

check the fuel lines - and in and around the carb for leakage.

Could be a rusty hole in the top of the tank - petrol evaporating = smell

could be a rusty hole in the tank/leak

well the smell is coming from the exhaust area, but the fuel lines, petrol tank have just been changed.

Could be the carb, mine was way out and over fuelling hence petrol stink everytime i put it in the garage

well i knew it was coz my old carb was foobar'd, had to replace it with a weber item and was told by garage the old carb was over fuelling. Does your car use lots of fuel and overrun?

it doesnt use a lot of fuel but a wee bit, by over running do u mean running on once uveturned the ignition off? if so yes

cheers

Probably pre-ignition timing and carb, that was what mine was. Get it booked into a carb specialist garage they'll sort it out

Also mine kept overruning after i had it done so i rang the bloke back and he said on older engines, carbon can buildup in the bores and he told me to put injection/carb additive in my fuel n that sorted it

if youve just left it for a week and in that time youve had new fuel lines fitted, I'd start with them. Its unlikely to be anything else if all was fine the week before...

check under the car for leaks or drips. Maybe start her leave stationary for a few mins then move forward and look on the road...

Petrol evaporates but leaves an oily deposit behind - it its leaking tighten up the clips etc...
