c20xe help please

i have an xe nova and have found a wire hanging down that goes into the sump what is it and where does it go??

secondly i have my speedo cable wired straight into my gearbox but i read somwhere that i must have the electrical speed sendor in first and wired to the ecu to make the engine run right and perfom as it should is this the case???

as far as i know the sensor in the sump you dont need, well mine an other 2lt novas i know dont have it connected. Dunno about the speedo, i just run the normal cable in it and its fine.
