Just been out to clean the gearbox casing as I wanted to find out what box I've got, decided to clean the oil off the side of the head while I was there. Turns out the engine is stamped as a 13SB, No.19912625. "thats bloody wrong" I thought, so went to check the logbook, Engine No. shoud be 19104748!
Serves me right for not checking it properly before I bought it  , thing is, it does have the 1.4 dizzy on, and therefore the 1.4 cam. Also the new carb's jetted for a 1400 so that probably explains why she doesn't pull very well.

But where do I go from here? I've sent an e-mail to the previous owner asking if he knew when the engine was changed, but I doubt I'll get a reply.

It could be a 1400 top end on a 1300 block.
So you have the 1400 dizzy etc, but 1300 code stamped on the block.

1300 block and head, the head has 13 cast into it above no4 spark plug, I think it was probably a case of the engine giving up, and someone replacing it with just another SR lump, not paying attention to the size it should be. Just had a look under the rocker cover and it looks like the 1.4 cam, housing and dizzy were just bolted on top of the 1300 bits.

It also has the 1.4 exhaust system

I think you will just have to change the engine number on the V5.
Both engines are similar in terms on performance anyway.
An easy way to check which head it is, is to remove the inlet manifold and see what shape the head ports are.
Make sure the inlet is the same shape port as the head, that could explain poor performance.

yeah just thought of that, got a spare 1.3 inlet in the garage which I've still got to grind out to match the weber, think I'll have to get that done and change it over.

On the Bright side though, I could now go out and get a 1400 block and get it built up to how I want it while still being able to drive the car, as I also have a 1300 head sat around, aswell as a brand new 1400 cam.

I'm gonna hit the Export now I think, all this on top of failing my class 1 HGV this afternoon

It isnt really a big problem as long as it was fitted properly. And unlucky about ur hgv license.

well the previous owner says he didn't know about it, and they've also changed the gearbox at the same time from an F13 CR3.94 to an F10 W4.18. time to clear the garage out ready for an engine and gearbox build.

Some did, some didn't, think it was down to whoever bolted them together on the production line

some sri's had the F13 but not the sr's, never heard of the sr's having the f13, i dont think so

I'd be happy with the 1.3 head/inlet and 4.18 Fd you have got yourself.

Just source a 1.4 bottom end and you'll be laughing with the 1.4 cam/dizzy.

Better than having a 1.4 head.
