Whats the difference in a 1200 Gear box and a 1400 item? Is the 14 stronger or what? Basicially i want relayability (spelling)and i want it to be nippy. No motor way miles, just back road thrashng. Through the gears pretty frequently.

Well, 1200 usually only have 4 gears, 1400 have 5.
Thats the main difference.

Don't know if there is any difference in terms of strength tho.

I think 5spd was an optional extra on some 1.2s, possibly standard on some special editions...

1400SR boxes will probably be CR too

Will the 1200 have an F10 and the 1400 have an F13?

A good box to go for is the F13CR with a 4.18FD - Perfect for what your after.

1.2's had f10's in them, i think wide ratio.
1.4 sr's have f10 cr
1.4sri's have f13

note the F10 and F13 share the same internals so there is no difference in "strength"

you cant rely on the engine size etc for a gearbox ident. you have to read the code to get the acctual box.

you mean the selector on top of the box?

thats a generic part used on most/all small block boxes as it was cheaper.

Err, right. Keith told me that if it says CR on the box, then its a close Ratio item. Am getting a few SRi engines and boxes, so i'll pick a CR item and bung it in. Sweeeeeeet!!!

Yup, both of mine ('90 and '91) were 4spd. 5 was optional extra iirc....

Nah i wish they had all that would have made my job easier lol, the flair has sr/i coloured interior but without the recaro style seat bolsters an the luxe plus has the leccy windows n central lockin, me only got the luxe so had to fit it all myself grrrr!!!!

Yeah i think that is the case.
As my 93 has a 4spd, but i have seen a few 1991/92 with 5spds.
Don't really see much point of the 5spd to be honest.
Mine seems comfortable on the motorway with just 4 gears.

Great stuff, now to port the 13 head. Got the fucked engine, anything worth taking off it?

1.6 EFI, with a big hole in the block. Siezed solid.

Dod

WR, meaning Wide Ratio obviously. Cant actually see anything denoting what ratio it is. Anyone got a pic of where it should be?
