iv finally got off my fat lazy arse and decided to do some excercise, so iv joined a gym. iv been on the salads for 6 weeks and thought it would be the next step to go as i havent lifted a finger in nearly 10 years!!
so i joined an esporta gym, which is quite an exclusive little place and went last night for my first 3 hr work out.
20 - 30 mins in the spin room (full of excersice bikes that move from side to side, like riding a proper bike with a massive tv, strobes and cooling fans) then i hit the treadmill for a bit, then some other wierd contraption, the pool for a few lengths, steam room, sauna then spa.
now im bollocksed, i cant move and struggled to get out of bed this morning (more than usual).
someone tell me it'll get easier as time goes on!!!!!!!

My dear old chap I do feel sorry for you . But there is an easier option - try Bronco sex for fittness. Whilst giving youre partner a portion ( must be doggy stylee fashion tho ) call out her mothers name on the point of the vinegar strokes - the idea is to stay on as long as possible - you can certainly expect a good wrestle !!

It'll get easier as time goes on
P.S. I really does. Keep it up :+:
I've gotten back into doing a lot of cycling again, was pretty tough to start with but now its a lot better
Would love to get into swimming too, but our local "pool" (more of a puddle really) has closed pretty much all summer to have the roof fixed. And I can't get to the beach as I'm in Cheltenham each weekend :(

my local pool costs a fair bit and the opening hours arnt very good therefore i may only get an hour in after work once a week if im lucky. i think swimming is the easiest form of excersice to get started with.
as for those exercise bikes, they cause me pain in my man tackle. is this something which may stop - or should i take a cusion with me??

I know that feeling all too well mate !! Before I passed my test cycling was my only form of transport - I still love it , but put on a stone since stopped due to me motor . The bikes I use have been both road , hybrid and mtbs but all have caused the same problem , which is very common - numbness . It aint funny to spin about 10 15 miles then suddenly get a terrible burning sensation , numbness then pins and needles in the old chap ( it is humerous after the event I,ll admit ) and to stand doubled up by the road or in the woods pulling faces like chewbacca and cussing like snoopdog must have caused a stare or two.. I looked into this problem and was informed it was two things - 1 wrong saddle ( we,re not talking saddle sore here to a new cyclist ) 2 saddle / seatpost height is wrong. So I set the height to the correct reach ( this is crucial on a mtb- it aint about weather your feet touch the ground .. ) and then tried about 20 different saddles . The last one I brought was ?50 !! Me motor cost ?400!!
But it worked . Best thing to wear when cycling for fitness ( and yes you will look silly but they help ) is proper padded lycra shorts .
Think its time to dust that old Marin of mine down and go for a long spin..........

I love Marins, use my Rock Springs at the moment but might have to dust off the old Palisades... that was a great bike, really nice ride

Yeah too right matey - they are brilliant. I,ve still got a 91 pine mountain ( no shocks its that old the geomatry of the frame affects the ride if fitted ) its as stiff as hell but a blast to ride. I,ve also had Kona ( fab bike , but had to sell was skint ) and the last one,s a Cannondale ( mega expensive - the mrs treated me out of her redundancy ) with a lefty front fork , - its nice but for some reason its always the Marin that goes out....
OLDSCHOOL BABY !!
when you feel the pain youve made a gain
I was always told to work out and then next day rest (when it hurts) then the following day work out etc...
4 times a week - then rest for a couple of days...
The pain is your muscles ripping and rebuilding apparatly
lol
I bought a football the other day with the intention of taking it up the field, booting it as far as I could and then running after it only to repeat until I got too tired to carry on.
However since buying said ball, all Ive done with it is bounce it in the hall (much to the annouance of the wife) and balance it on my belly whilst watching telly and eating a biscuit!
lazy fecker!
I do however find working on me car quite good for exercise. My stomach muscles are still sore from the weekends exercise getting up and under my car regularly!

the one i have on my azonic jump bike was about ?90, made out of a peice of billet with a sofa on top lol - All just clipped into a billet seatpost which cost an absolute fortune as well !
but it did have to be strong as it used to take a hell of a beating !

Thats the one thing I really hate about cycling - the cost of parts. On all the mtb,s I ve had theres always been a few bits ( ie pedals saddles seatposts , or tyres ) that really were poor quality - and my mounts werent cheap ones !! Replacing these parts cost dearly - god knows what it must amount to if you were building an entire bike !! I suppose its like most things tho , when they first come out - like vhs videos - ?500 when they first emerged you can now pick em up for ?30. I walked round Halfrauds a month or so back and couldnt believe what sort of bike you can now obtain for ?300......
I,m begining to sound like Victor Meldrew.......

Funnily enough, thats just what I think
I was considering building a bike from scratch, but with the frames I was looking at selling on ebay for about ?300, it worked out cheaper to buy my complete bike for ?345 delivered

i found that out as well.......
used to be a big biker, when i left school i used to bike to work, thats 13 miles each way, took me 45 mins in the morning and an hour and a half at night, then got me car and sold the bike, now seriously need to get back into shape again!
just bought a Baracuda.... um cant remember the model. ?260, full suspension and disc brakes all round. stops on a 6 pence! and me, i stop about 20 yards down the road!
just got to get out there and use it more.

the cannondale i,ve got has discs on it...first time out the brakes really didnt cut it , so I read the manual and the instruction was to ride the thing (with normal trainers - not clipped spd,s for saftey ) slowly pouring water on the rotar and pumping the brake . So out I went riding up and down - nothing , except my nieghbour came out - she thought I,d lost it . So I stopped and explained what I was up to , had a brief chat ( god shes fit milf at 50 ) and then rode off. I didnt squirt the rotar with water , just pulled the front brake - then picked myself up off the floor - silly power !! I thought v-brakes were enough , but discs are so powerful I,ve heard of frames snapping because of the high stress........It took some time before I dared use the bike with the Spd shoes....funny thing is I still prefer the old Marin.
Theres only one REAL problem with mtbs - you gotta insure em - thievin scum !!

DAY TWO AT THE GYM
--------------------------
Went again last night, my muscles started to hurt a bit quicker that the last but all in all it was a good experiance.
left the gym, got in my car and heard a loud cluncking sound when i drove off - great, the diffs fucked, so i have to drive home (9 miles) trying to get a bit of speed of the straight and rolling round corners trying not to let the car pull me all over. never hear a car sound that fucked before, knocking and banging all the time the shafts were spinning all the time. managed to pull up outside my house and it was stuck in gear and i cant get it out.
lol is this going to be regularly updated like Ade's Garage?
hmm, I remember when my rear diff started making funny noises... luckily turned out it was just a worn rubber mount tho (still cost ?140 to repair, gee thanks Toyota!)
lol @ disc brakes, try having hydraulic disc brakes. One second you're happily trundling along at 15mph, the next you're face down on the ground a few yards along from your bike wondering what the hell just happened

To build a bike from scratch try spending 1500 quid then finding out 2 years down the line it is worth fuk all. And thats just my mountian bike and not including the snapped frames, bent wheel, fuked hubs and maintance. Expensive business. My bmx now that cost me a grand to build from scratch and is worth now about 300 quid now.

Andy old chum - I couldnt agree more . That Cannondale of mine cost the mrs ( out of her redundancy bless her ) ?1800 . Due to work commitments and such it hasnt been ridden hardly at all - its mint ...I,d be lucky if I got ?500 for it now........
