View Full Version : latest update, monday
seeing as everyone else is putting up there progress i thought i'd better share mine.
not a lot has been done since last time, due to setting up at work, main thing is the engine is now in. the rear 1/4s are being fitted tomorrow (unless i get let down again) then i can spray the interior and start getting it all back together.
i took a few pics tonight and will get som more tomorrow once work on the arches has been started

it's the same 1400 engine, the only difference is the gearbox, it's now a f13cr with a 4.18 final drive. the engine will be changed eventually, still not sure what to but theres a good chance it might be somthing no one is expecting

basically i've just quit work and set up my own company so i didn't want to spend anything untill i knew i would have enough work/cash coming in. luckly cash isn't the problem now but time is, not only do i have little time to work on the car i also have little time untill llandow. the car probably won't be painted in time but it will be drivable. To be honest i've lost interest, i want somthing like a cooper s or a clio sport but i'm sure i'll change my mind when it is all finished
keep the daith mate - keep the faith!
Did you fit the front end yourself - if so any pics of the lower valance? Thats the bit I need to replace but need to get it spot on coz of the tie bars.
:?
the valance was done last may when i crashed it, if you want pics i can take some, but none of while it was being fitted
did you do it yourself?
Did you grind the old valance off and how hard was refitting the new one?
(thats if you did it)
What bsuiness you set up m8?
Anything we can "use"?
:D
nice one ben looks good - do you think it will be done in time :?:
ade - chris replaced his front panel on his valver so if you ask hime im sure he would help
i didn't do it myself i had a bodyshop do it for me, it cos ?400 for a full front panel, a front wing and the chasis leg straightened
my company is called electrical innovations and i'm a electrician
nice one ben looks good - do you think it will be done in time :?:
i doubt it will be finished but it will be drivable and deffinatly on track

cheers mate. how you getting on with the scooby?
more updates,
mk2 front end is on. most of the interior is primered all apart from the boot floor which still needs welding, i'm having to paint what i can so i can get ready for my trackday, i'll get it painted then get my cage and seats back in.
also tried fitting my new mo's but the catch on the calipers, not amused

Looks good benji, who cares if it is painted for llunduno (sp) as long as it shifts. Plus it would be funny to over take people in a half finished car
I wont be getting overtaken by a halk finished car in Llandow hehe
Chris
Ben did you treat the inners on the 1/4s before you fitted them?
ok ok ok maybe mine has marginally more progress on it than yours lol.
but atleast your engine is run in :P

not treated anything yet, what should i do it with. i can still get to them from the interior, and they arn't actually finished yet, i still need to sort out the inner arch, still not sure what to do with it, i don'treally want to weld it to the outer skit as they are mint and after welding they would need filler

nice one ben, can you not fibreglass the inner to the outer? how bigs the gap? r you gona roll or grind the lip for clearance, progress is looking good mate keep it up
the lip is gonna be cut off, as for the innerarch i dunno. russ has told me to weld it to the outer skin, but i don't want to ruin the new panels, i might fiberglass it and stick some tigerseal on it aswell

dunna weld it, if you blow a hole in it i would havto kill you! just fibreglass matt it, its easy, rnt you worried about em rustin if you grind em instead of rolling em?
i'll grind them then spray them with zinc primer

Cut the lip off then bond and spot it along the edge.

Add enough new metal to the inner arch so that the edge sits in the fold of the outer. Then gently fold the lip of the outer arch up and back, so that the lip is now pointing up, resting against the inner arch. you can then stitch-weld the lip of the outer to the new bit of inner. I'll post a pic of what I mean.

Hope this explains it a bit better, this way you're also putting quite a bit of strength back into the shell.
there is no structural strengh in the arches.
CP cut/ground his back totaly and didnt weld them up...

My mistake! I would do it that way myself though, just because to me it's a tidier way to do it.

russ and starkmotorsport both think they need welding

I agree, mine will be spotted at points along it. If your a good welded then you shud not blow holes in it. Hell my car is now in the same state as yours. Just a mirror thoug as my NSR arch is fitted and the OSR has just been cut off.
mine are both on now, just the inner arches need sorting. its not so much blowing holes that worries me, but rippling/warping the panel.

Just spot it every 1.5" or so, then seal it all up with a very strong bonder. Would be fine like that.
I bonded my inner arches with fibreglass and theyre solid as feck!
If you apply enough fibreglass and layer it properly it'll be fine.

has anyone got any pictures of the spot welding being done, or any photos of it once it has been done?
you can see the spot welds all over your can, they are small circles in the metal, usually on brackets and edges of panels.
the reason that i wanted to see pictures is that i am having a dilemma myself- do i cut the arches off then spot weld them or should i get them rolled? any ideas?
cheers mate. how you getting on with the scooby?
lol i sold it mate, ive got a 200 sx s13 now, ive allways wanted one and it was a lot cheaper to run than the scoob, im going for 300 bhp with it when ive got the new top end sorted, hmm RWD :D
lovin your car now mate, cant wait to see the finnished project,
