Just bought a 1600 engine to use in my racer, anyone know the bore / stroke of these, only got it yesterday and haven't had chance to pull it down yet. Has anyone ever bored these further? what piston did you use? being a racer i need it as square as posible. Did want a 1400 originaly but this came up and it was the right money. cheers lads, good forum by the way.

Iv seen 1650's dont know bout anymore, it makes cooling worse and melt downs easier.

1mm oversized pistons will give you 1640cc or close to that.

Standard is 1598cc
Bore - 79mm
Stroke - 81.5

You can get 1.5 or 2mm oversize i think but they are less common and arn't found in normal parts catalogues.

Oh that's not too bad, I thought it would be really undersquare for some reason, so if i can get +2mm pistons it'll be near as damnit square, double handy. How about headwork on these? any real gains to be had on a 1600? Anyone had any experience with a race spec one of these before? cheers lads

dan/jims 1650's are about as close to race spec as you get (bar russ's old engine)

head work is a total benefit, bigger valves, lots of good proper porting etc and away you go ;o)

I can get an old 1300 grp a head, all the group As have gone 1400 and you can't have headwork with a 1400, this has slightly bigger valves and a fair bit of porting. Think that was bassed on a 1600 head as a kick off so that might be the fella to have then eh, Blimey can't wait to build it now!
