View Full Version : Disk and pad combo.
Just about to fit a set of valver brakes (nice one riggy) and was wondering what the best setup or Disk/Pad combo would be.
I mainly drive on country roads and the usual to and from work.
My golf was supporting a set of Pagid Fast road pads with brembo max disk's which seemed to work well.
Opinions please. . .

the best i have come across personally are the tarox 40 groove discs and matching pads, the pads i have are 'ok' when toodling around the roads, but get em warm on a blast or on track and jeeeesussssss they bite like troopers

i have green stuff pads on standard discs, they need a little bit of heat t get them spot on but im happy with them.
i use greenstuff pads with std discs aswell
as phill said once warm they seem to be good , ill let you try them out one night this week if you want

personally ive only run standard disks and pads, im currently using lucas pads and brakeworld disks and they arent that great imo, the pads are especially bad, they seem to bite a lot better once u get some heat into them, but after a few aggressive brakes once the heats into them they just fade
ive heard a lot of bad things about greenstuff (one bloke on mig destroyed 2 sets extremely quickly, and the first set failed in a very dangerous manner iirc)
mintex 1144's are supposed to be good, as are 1155's for the more aggressive driver/track use

vauxhall pads are pretty good
you want something fairly soft i found , the car weighs pittance and it takes a bit to get some heat into the pads on performance stuff.
i was allways glasing pads up, until i fitted grooved dics, which made quite a uselfull improvement
cheers chappy's...

had green stuff with turbo grove disc's lasted about 11months till worn out!
now genuin 2.0 16v calipers, disk's and pads (bought on cheap form Vauxhall main dealer I used to work at runnig parts department).
Ok but even with new lines (braided s/s), new silver thing not servo other thing can't remember name this mo in time! still not as good as my 1.7TD cav ones but run Black dimond cmbi disk's with padgid fast road pads on my Starlet GT turbo and fuck me they stop make kool rotor noise when really working them hard!
I'd go to monster discs .co.uk and get a conversion from them if got the cash!
ED
