ignition coil help

took my xe nova for a tune up the other day and was told i needed several things done before i was ready for a tune up. Also getting my porous head sorted while i am at it so dunno what that will cost me. Anyway he said i need to get an electronic ignition coil instead of what i have got, not sure what i have the now as i never bought it but anyone know what the different types available are?
